Half of each of these groups underwent bond strength tests on enamel, and the other half was used for adhesion testing on dentin. The following experimental groups (n = 5) were then formed: E(1) Adper Prompt-L-Pop (AP, 3M ESPE) on enamel; E(2) Xeno CF II (X, Sanking Kogyo) on enamel; E(3) AdheSE (AS, Ivoclar-Vivadent) on enamel; E(4) Excite (EX, Ivoclar-Vivadent) on enamel; D(1) AP on dentin; D(2): X on dentin; D(3) AS on dentin; D(4) EX on dentin. Each tooth yielded 15 to 20 sticks about 0.9 x 0.9 mm in cross-sectional area for microtensile testing. Specimens were loaded in tension at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/minute, and bond strength at failure was calculated in MPa. A two-way ANOVA was applied to test for significance of the differences among the groups.RESULTS: The bond strength values of Excite (the control) were significantly higher than those of the test products on enamel (42.92+/-4.8 MPa) and on dentin (45.80+/-5.79 MPa). The self-etching adhesives AdheSE (28.48+/-4.71 MPa) and Xeno CF II (27.22+/-2.74 MPa) revealed significantly stronger adhesion than Adper Prompt-L-Pop (20.16+/-2.07 MPa) on dentin. On enamel, all self-etching test materials performed similarly. The substrate did not appear to have a significant influence on adhesion, as each material reached comparable levels of bond strength on enamel and dentin.CONCLUSION: On both substrates the self-etching adhesives tested performed significantly worse than did the total-etch system.

Nevertheless, the empirical perspective gives us a better understanding of the real world. In this study, we tried to understand, to systematize, and to describe the process of research and strategy in advertising agencies. To accomplish this objective we conducted 25 in-depth interviews with advertising agency professionals in Portugal. Cross-analysis of the statements allowed us to identify 5 themes: research done by the client before providing the brief to the agency, client's brief, information gathering done by the agency, brief's discussion inside the agency, and creative brief.

The seeds stored in the upper portion of two piles of 1.200 bags each, in the 23rd ballast (penultimate), in several positions in relation to the central duct of aeration of the cooling system, were evaluated for standard germination, vigor (accelerated ageing, field emergence and tetrazolium) and health (blotter test) during a period of eight months. Soybean seeds with initial moisture content of 14%, store in the upper part of the piles with cooling aeration system, reduced its physiological quality after two months of storage. The seeds treated with fungicide showed better performance in the initial periods of storage, but not after four months. The seed moisture content variation over the storage period was significant, starting with 14% ending with 10%. After 30 days, even so, the seeds still showed 13,8% moisture content, being probable the cause of reduction of the physiological quality. The reduction of 0,6 percentage points per month of storage was not sufficient to delay deterioration effects on seeds.

Six hundred fourteen consecutive patients (58.6% female; mean age, 54.5 years) underwent thoracoscopy with talc poudrage from August 1983 to May 1999. Of these, 457 patients had malignant pleural effusions, 108 patients had benign pleural effusions, and 49 patients had spontaneous pneumothorax. Sixty-four patients were excluded from evaluation for efficacy: 30 patients (4.9%) because the lung did not expand at the time of the procedure and 34 patients (5.5%) because they died within 30 days of the thoracoscopy. All exclusions were in the malignant group. The overall success rate of the 393 patients with malignant pleural effusions was 93.4%, while the overall success for the 108 patients with benign effusions was 97%, although 7 patients (7%) with benign effusions required a second thoracoscopy. The success rate with pneumothorax...

In this prospective study, 28 consecutive patients with IPF underwent stationary esophageal manometry, 24-h esophageal pH-metry and pulmonary function tests. All patients also completed a symptom and quality of life in GERD questionnaire. In the study sample, the prevalence of GERD was 35.7%. The patients were then divided into two groups: GERD+ (abnormal pH-metry; n = 10) and GERD- (normal pH-metry; n = 18). In the GERD+ group, 77.7% of the patients presented at least one typical GERD symptom. The pH-metry results showed that 8 (80%) of the GERD+ group patients had abnormal supine reflux, and that the reflux was exclusively in the supine position in 5 (50%). In the GERD+ and GERD- groups, respectively, 5 (50.0%) and 7 (38.8%) of the patients presented a hypotensive lower esop...

The development of the chapter is done via four main sections, followed by a conclusion. The chapter begins by highlighting how the gap between career counseling theories and reality has contributed to the emergence of the Life Designing Paradigm. In the second section, considerations are given to some topics which are currently debated in light of the new Life Designing Paradigm, with its relationship with counseling activity being presented. An approach to the process of counseling according to Life Designing perspectives and the importance of the analysis of practices for the continuous update and innovation of this framework for counseling follows. Finally, a research into the practice of career counseling and a case study that illustrates the practical co...

Methods: Forty Wistar rats were divided into four groups: acute treatment, comprising rats receiving a single injection of methylprednisolone (50 mg/kg i.p.); acute control, comprising rats i.p. injected with saline; chronic treatment, comprising rats receiving methylprednisolone in drinking water (6 mg/kg per day for 30 days); and chronic control, comprising rats receiving normal drinking water. Results: The levels of TRAP were significantly higher in the acute treatment group rats than in the acute control rats, suggesting an improvement in the pulmonary defenses of the former. The levels of lung LPO were significantly higher in the chronic treatment group rats than in the chronic control rats, indicating oxidative damage in the lung tissue of the former....

Class V cavities (3 mm x 2 mm x 2 mm) were prepared in sound human molars with occlusal margins in enamel and gingival margins in dentin/cementum. Etch & Prime 3.0 (Degussa), Single Bond (3M), PQ1 (Ultradent), Prime & Bond NT (Dentsply) and Experimental BEH (Dentsply DeTrey) were applied strictly according to manufacturers instructions. All adhesive systems were applied on etched substrates, except for the self-etching adhesive Etch & Prime 3.0. Cavities were restored with Z100 RBC. After finishing and polishing, teeth were thermo-cycled (x 700, 5-55 degrees C, 60 s dwell time). Specimens were coated with nail varnish, immersed in silver nitrate for 2 hours and sectioned longitudinally with a diamond disc. The extent of leakage was me...
