This year, our aim was to make participants know and understand the reasons for the diffi cult situations arising in family medicine practices; to know the factors that aff ect the diffi culty of the relationship; to understand the impact of diffi cult situations on health care outcomes and family physician ’ s wellbeing; to recognize their own emotions in a diffi cult situation; to react in a professional way in a diffi cult situation in the clinic or teaching; to respect the values of professional behaviour in health care and in teaching; and to be aware of the various forms of ‘ diffi cult situations ’ in daily practice and in teaching. The aim of the workshop was to teach participants to transfer new knowledge, skills and attitudes to their students and to other family physicians in their working environment. Course directors were: Jaime Correia de Sousa and Yonah Yaphe, University of Minho, Braga, Portugal; Jo Buchanan, Sheffi eld, UK; Henry Finnegan, ICGP, Ireland; and Mateja Bulc and Marija Petek S ter, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Cigarette smoking effects cancer risk and cardiovascular risk. Smoking cessation confers substantial benefits on health. Our aim was to determine whether the early introduction of integrated rehabilitation from the beginning of cancer treatment is associated with the smoking cessation in breast cancer patients. Material and Methods: The subjects of our prospective study were 467 female breast cancer patients (29-65 (mean 52) years of age), who participated in the pilot study on the individualized integrated rehabilitation of breast cancer patients in 2019-2022 and were followed for at least one year. The control group included 282 patients and the intervention group 185 patients. The patients completed three questionnaires (EORTC QLQ - C30, B23 and NCCN) before and one year after the beginning of cancer treatment. The control group obtained the same rehabilitation as was offered to all breast cancer ...

Metode: Pouk družinske medicine smo prilagodili izvedbi preko videokonferenčnega sistema. Dodali smo aktualne teme o epidemiji, uvedli redne domače naloge, povečali uporabo spletne učilnice in vzpostavili možnost foruma. Uporabili smo nove metode, na primer predavanje z “obrnjeno učilnico”, problemsko usmerjeno učenje s kliničnimi vinjetami in video-posvet o pouku sporazumevanja. Posebej se je obnesla metoda igrifikacije oz. uvedba kviza v pouk. Rezultati: Kakovost, prednosti in nevarnosti spletnega pouka smo ocenili z anketo študentov in mnenjem pedagogov.

Although data on family violence during crisis is scarce, existing reports from China, UK and USA already suggest an increase of intimate partner violence. As social distancing measures are taken and people forced or encourage to stay at home, we could expect that the increase of tension at many homes will unfortunately end up in new cases of family violence or exacerbations of existing ones. Such context of an overloaded health system facing the crisis may imply in extra challenges for victims to seek help. This article aims to summarize the existing evidence regarding family violence during crisis and the resources available that can help to mitigate the impact of violence

In 2016, 174 interviews were performed, using the Short Form Domestic Violence Exposure Questionnaire, the Zung Scale and questions about behavioural patterns of exposure to IPV. Family doctors reviewed patients’ medical charts for period from 2012 to 2016, using the Domestic Violence Exposure Medical Chart Check List, for conditions which persisted for at least three years. Depression was found to be associated with any exposure to IPV in adult life and was more likely to affect women. In multivariable logistic regression modelling, factors associated with self-rated depression were identified (p < 0.05). Exposure to emotional and physical violence was identified as a risk factor in the first model, explaining 23% of the variance. The second model explained 6...

Our aim was to determine whether the early introduction of focused rehabilitation from the start of the cancer treatment is associated with the frequency of fatigue in breast cancer patients. Methods: The subjects of our prospective study were 600 female breast cancer patients (26-65 (mean 52) years of age), who participated in the pilot study on the individualized integrated rehabilitation of breast cancer patients in 2019-2022 and were followed for at least six months. The control group included 300 patients and the intervention group 300 patients. Treatment decisions can be made between hormonalreplacement therapy and other, less researched remedies. Shared decision makingsignificantly improves adherence to treatment and facilitates better treatment outcomes. This can be made possible if the patient is adequately informed about the benefits and risksof the therapy. A trusting relationship between the doctor and patient and excellentcommunication between them is a key to better outcomes. The article brings an overviewof some of the research on quality of life in menopause, and counselling concerninghormonal replacement therapy. CONCLUSIONS Quality of life in menopause is a result of many factors and th...

It currently includes a one (or two) generational inquiry, predominately in terms of cardiovascular diseases, arterial hypertension, and diabetes, but not of other diseases with a probable genetic aetiology. Beside family history, no application-based algorithm is available to determine the risk level for specific chronic diseases in Slovenia. Methods A web application-based algorithm aimed at determining the risk level for selected monogenic and polygenic diseases will be developed. The data will be collected in MFMP; approximately 40 overall with a sample including healthy preventive examination attendees (approximately 1,000). Demographic data, a three-generational FH, a medical history of acquired and congenital risk factors for the selected diseases, and other important clinical factors will be documented. Results The res...

Meta-analyses in 2013 showed every third female globally had been a victim of violence. Experts find screening controversial; family medicine is the preferred environment for identifying victims of violence, but barriers on both sides prevent patients from discussing it with doctors.MethodsIn July 2014, a qualitative study was performed through semi-structured interviews with ten family doctors of different ages and gender, working in rural or urban environments. Sound recordings of the interviews were transcribed, and the record verified. The data were interpreted using content analysis. A coding scheme was developed and later verified and analysed by two independent researchers. The text of the interviews was analysed according to the coding scheme.ResultsTwo coding schemes were developed: one for screening, and the other for the active detection of ...

The purpose of this research was to establish the frequency of violent victimization and the readiness of patients to disclose possible experiences of physical violence and/or psychological abuse in the family. For the first time, physicians themselves asked their patients about possible experiences of family violence. This screening research study included 25 doctors of family medicine from the Republic of Slovenia, who for 14 days questioned ever), fifth patient, composing a sample of 797 persons. Doctors thus actively identified victims of physical violence and/or psychological abuse, the frequency of violence, the perpetrators of violence and the readiness of victims of violence to seek help. This research repeated a pilot screening study carried out in 2006, in which 27 doctors of family medicine in Slovenia participated, who for 14 days asked every fifth patient about this phenomenon, which composed a sample of 1103 patients.
