The reasons for the grammar defectiveness are sought and they are connected not solely with the semantics of
the motivating word and of the word formation formant. The homonymic relationships, which these verbs enter into with verbs, not defective per category person or number, are indicated. The connection between the lexical meaning and the grammar meaning of the verbs under consideration is illustrated, frequently also stylistically determined.

Since these characteristics are dependent not only on linguistic factors (person, aspect, temporal characteristics, lexical semantics of the verb in the 'shall we'-sentence, etc.) but also on extralinguistic factors (subject of the action, illocutionary force of the statement, the position of the 'shall we'-sentence in the incentive retort or reply, volition of the addresser or the addressee, the situational context, etc.) these sentences have been studied on discursive level. Much account is taken of the synonymy and polysemy of the 'shall we'-sentences. The excerpted material belongs to the colloquial everyday speech and stylized colloquial speech from fictional texts.
