The second part sketches some contemporary theories supporting compatibilism, stating that freedom of choice squares with universal laws of causality and others supporting libertarianism, asserting that will is an autonomous human faculty with own causal powers. The aim of the essay is emphasizing that Aristotelian concepts explained in the first part are recognizable in theories examined in the second, in order to conclude that, despite great progress in contemporary sciences, mainly in neuroscience, Aristotle's model of argumentation is convincing even now.

Principal opponents of Heidegger were neopositivist philosophers, particularly Carnap in The Elimination of Metaphysics. Although neopositivists assumed that the source of antimetaphysics criticism was Wittgenstein's Tractatus, it is possible to show that Wittgenstein maintained that metaphysics is very respectable. Following Wittgenstein, contemporary analytic philosophers have rehabilitated metaphysics whose duty is to make an inventory of the world. Therefore, we can speak of a renaissance of metaphysics: even if thinkers whose main objective is to illustrate the fundamental constituents of reality prefer to label their science ontology, it is possible to conclude that now days bias against metaphysics is definitively eradicated. 1.

After the " linguistic " turn in philosophy, the ontological one is particularly due to the logical analyses of Quine and the issues on meaning by Russell, Kripke and Putnam. We can sketch two main streams in the theory of definition of words: one of those is very close to the aristotelian theory that assigns the function of individuating the meaning of word to the " essence " ; the other one is labelled 'theory of description' and is initially due to Russell. The last attributes the meaning to a bundle of properties or characteristics. As result it is sustained that, in order to fruitful apply theory of definition in terminology, it is necessary to take into account both interpretations of meaning.
