This term addresses natural features that enhance fitness, but were not built up by natural selection for this purpose. In the management literature this term has been used to address the exploitation of an existing body of knowledge to enter an emerging technological trajectory and gain a competitive advantage in a relative industry. So far, however, little attention has been devoted to the evolutionary dynamics underling and generated by this process. Therefore, in this paper we deepen our understanding of those aspects. Our main contribution is to highlight the discontinuous nature of those changes. Exaptation, differently from adaptations, are not selected for their contribution to the optimization of an existing function, but for their availability to perform an emerging function. Therefore, exaptations are not selected, but select and contribute to build up the environment valorising their potential.

A dynamic counter-balance process that therefore seems to improve the way people take decisions as well as their way of acting, decoupling them, to put them back together in better and more suitable organizational models (in terms of appropriateness and stability). Because they are able to cope with the complexities of permanent change and innovation to which (as in case of digital world) present and future organizations seem to be condemned. And yet also (but not only) as a substitute for an increasingly weaker concept of strategy and an alternative question to avoid being swallowed up by the logic of pure calculation of consequences (deterministic rationalism) or simple reactivity more or less Pavlovian (bo...

In recent years we have seen organization as “part” of strategy as a dynamic counterweights process of action able to improve managers to take decisions often decoupling them, to put them back together in better and more suitable organizational models for more dynamic stability and gaining resilience in front of innovation and change. We see in digital world – in particular - to the organization as a (quasi)-substitute for an increasingly weaker concept of strategy as linear process and an alternative and flexible solution to the failures by the logic of pure calculation of consequences (deterministic rationalism) or simple reactivity – as describe by Pavlov 100 years ago - (bound by external resources), or enclosed in the narrow spaces of a contingent intuitionism of the Bergsonian ...

The focus is on the ability of economic growth to guarantee sustainable use of environmental resources. A dynamic optimization technique is used as the standard theory of optimal control. Everybody knows that economists have used, and often still use, the terms economic growth and economic development in the same way. The analysis of the models proposed here is based, firstly, on the following distinction as a basic convention between two concepts: economic growth and economic development. This convention gives us a better view of the different weight that the environment takes on with respect to the economic dynamic and how this in turn influences the architecture of models. Both hypotheses and the results depend on the specific perspective from which authors have analyzed the problem. In a first case the focus is...

The principal successful factors are analyzed in the production and organization strategy. The methodology is based on primary and secondary data. It argues that lean manufacturing has increasing importance for eliminating waste based on integration on original Toyota model of lean production with the local and regional process of management.

Based on the past studies, we develop a specific detailed research questions: 1) How is the benchmarking strategy of Chamber of Pavia\u2019s Commerce for attracting investments? 2) What is the specificity of benchmarking in public service sector? The paper intends to answer to these questions; it offers a unique description of a successful strategy implementation of benchmarking in Pavia\u2019s Chamber of Commerce case. This research uses primary and secondary data. The results show as the benchmarking methodology can be a tool for improving the strategy. Collaborative benchmarking can be useful to share models and experiences between partners and also global benchmarking is important for the international research of the best practices.
