La obra I donneschi difetti de Giuseppe Passi se publica por primera vez en 1599, en un momento c... more La obra I donneschi difetti de Giuseppe Passi se publica por primera vez en 1599, en un momento convulso y de fuertes cambios en la sociedad italiana, especialmente en lo que a las mujeres se refiere. El tratado suscitó una fuerte controversia en Italia por su ataque explícito a la condición femenina, afirmando su inferioridad y su naturaleza vil a través de la descripción de los numerosos defectos que, según el autor, poseen las mujeres. La obra fue censurada por la Congregación del Índice más de dos décadas después de su publicación, en 1623, e incluida en el catálogo romano de libros prohibidos de 1632. Ese mismo año se prohíbe su lectura en España, en el índice del cardenal Antonio Zapata. La prohibición se mantendrá en todos los índices posteriores tanto en Italia, como en España. stereotypes in Sciascia’s works, ... more This study focuses on the analysis of female figures and gender stereotypes in Sciascia’s works, stemming from his interest in social issues and his ability to observe reality and transform it in written words. In his works it is possible to find the stereotype of the housewife, the mother and the daughter, as well as women who are corrupt, evil, nosy or treacherous. These female characters exist between fantasy and reality, and unveil the personality, customs, beliefs, education and concerns of women of the time, as well as society’s expectations of them.

Algunas de sus páginas revelan una grandísima inquietud por la mejora de las condiciones de vida de las mujeres, dando muestras de un feminismo en ocasiones implícito, otras explícito, que hacen de ella y de su obra un valioso testimonio de la lucha de las mujeres a principios del siglo XX por la emancipación y la igualdad.
