Guru etymology I rooted in PIE *gʷr ̥ h₂ús, the same root of the ancient greek 1 "barús" (βαρύς) and the latin word "gravis". 2 Barús means "heavy" like in Sanskrit and it can be used to indicate a deep or loud voice, something strong, but also something troublesome, even painful. Gravis in latin means "heavy" too and it also carries the same meanings expressed in ancient greek .

This finding seems to reinforce the validity of our assumption in a previous work (Freddi, G. 2018): that the Buddhist concept of ignorance has a neurological correlate and can be described as a "biased mind" which is the basis for "negativity" and "positivity" mental and behavioural biases. In the Buddhist view ignorance is the primary cause of suffering and the Buddhist path is a process to overcome suffering by transcending ignorance. In other terms the therapeutical ambition of Buddhist psychology is to awake our mind to a level of awareness transcending our biases. If this scope is grounded in a rational, verifiable theoretical framework, the descending methodology could represent a tool for overcoming inter-individual and intergroup biases.

In a cross cultural approach we offer the interpretation of this Tibetan Buddhist painting in the light of Dzogchen psychology and modern neurosciences... The premise on which the psychological reading of the bhavacakra are based was aptly expressed by the H.H. the XIVth Dalai Lama: “Being malleable, mind is able to change... Samsara is the cycle of existences, nirvana its over- coming... both are mental states. Samsara is a deviation from mindful understanding, a distorted vision of reality that subjects the mind to mental afflictions, while nirvana is a state of inner freedom, released from every conceptual and emotional obstacle.”

The hypothesis we try to probe is the centrality of the island of Ithaca. This privileged position can be seen both geographically within the context of the Ionian archipelago and the trading routes between Eastern and Western Mediterranean, as well as in terms of the centrality of the Myth of Ithaca within Ancient Greece and the European civilisation.
