CURRICULUM  VITAE   Maria  Pia  PEDANI     Venice  (Italy)       Office  Address:     University  Ca’  Foscari,  Venice   Dept.  of  Asian  and  North-­‐African  Studies   Palazzo  Vendramin  ai  Carmini   Dorsoduro  3462  -­‐  30123  Venice  (Italy)   e-­‐mail:  mpedani@unive.it   tel.  +39.041.234.9537   http://venus.unive.it/mpedani       Graduate  in  Foreign  Languages  and  Literatures  in  the  University  Ca’  Foscari  of  Venice  as   well  as  in  Humanities  in  the  University  of  Trieste,  she  got  a  PhD  in  History  in  the  University  of   Szeged  (Hungary).     She   has   worked   in   the   Venetian   States   Archives,   since   1979,   for   twenty   years.   In   1999   she  became  Associate  Professor  of  History  of  Islamic  Countries  in  the  University  Ca'  Foscari  of   Venice,   Department   of   Asian   and   North-­‐African   Studies.   In   2003   she   started   the   courses   of   History   of   the   Ottoman   Empire   in   Ca’   Foscari   University.   In   2004   she   signed   the   first   Erasmus   agreements  between  her  institute  and  some  Turkish  universities.  Since  then,  several  Turkish   students  went  to  Venice  to  study  under  her  supervision,  while  many  Italian  students  had  the   possibility  of  making  their  researches  in  Turkey.   Her  field  of  interest  is  the  history  of  the  Ottoman  Empire  from  the  14th  c.  until  the  end  of   the  18th  c.  She  has  studied  Ottoman  documents,  diplomacy,  peace  treaties,  border  agreements   and   Ottoman-­‐Venetian   relations.   On   these   subjects   she   wrote   many   essays   and   some   books   such  as:  I  “Documenti  Turchi”  dell’Archivio  di  Stato  di  Venezia,  Roma,  1994  and    Inventory  of  the   Lettere   e   Scritture   Turchesche   in   the   Venetian   State   Archives,   Leiden-­‐Boston,   2010;   In   nome   del   Gran   Signore.   Inviati   ottomani   a   Venezia   dalla   caduta   di   Costantinopoli   alla   guerra   di   Candia,  Venezia,  1994  (Turkish  translation:  “Osmanlı  Padişahının  Adına”  İstanbul’un  fethinden   Girit   savaşı’na   Venedik’e   gönderilen   osmanlılar,   Ankara,   2011)   and   Relazioni   di   ambasciatori   veneti   al   Senato.   vol.   XIV,   Costantinopoli.   Relazioni   inedite.   (1512-­‐1789),   Padova   1996;   La   dimora   della   pace.   Considerazioni   sulle   capitolazioni   tra   i   paesi   islamici   e   l’Europa,   Venezia   1996;   Dalla   frontiera   al   confine,   Roma,   2002;   Venezia,   porta   d'Oriente,   Bologna   2010.   Her   latest   book   is   a   history   of   Ottoman   gastronomy:   La   grande   cucina   ottomana.   Una   storia   di   gusto   e   cultura,   Bologna,   2012.   For   her   books   she   won   the   awards   «Arnaldo   Segarizzi-­‐Vittorio   Lazzarini»  in  1995  and  «Antico  Pignolo»  in  2010.   She   is   member   of   several   associations:   IAMS   (International   Association   of   Maritime   Studies),   Istituto   per   l'Oriente   «Carlo   Alfonso   Nallino»,   SIHMed   (Société   Internationale   des   Historiens   de   la   Méditerranée),   CIÉPO   (Comité   International   d’Études   Pré-­‐Ottomanes   et   Ottomanes),   Deputazione   Veneta   di   Storia   Patria.   She   is   member   of   the   advisory   boards   of   international   journals,   such   as:   «Tarih   incelemeleri   dergisi»,   «Uluslararası   Sosyal   Araştırmalar/The   Journal   of   International   Social   Research»,   «Gazi   Akademik   Bakiş   Dergisi»,   «The   MA»   (Online   Open   Access   Journal   for   Theatre,   Music   and   Arts   Research),   «Mülkiye   Dergisi».   She   is   the   director   of   the   on-­‐line   collection   «Hilal.   Studi   turchi   e   ottomani»   (Ca’   Foscari   University   Press),   which   publishes   papers   about   Turkish   civilization   in   Turkish,   English   and   Italian   and   Honorary   Member   of   the   Türk   Tarih   Kurumu   (Turkish   Historical   Society).
