Kathryn Alexander

Kathryn is currently an Associate Professor of Practice in the W.A. Franke Honors College at the University of Arizona; she is also Chair of the Franke Honors Faculty. She develops and teaches ethnomusicologically-based general education courses in the humanities and social sciences to Honors undergraduate students. She is affiliated with UArizona's Applied Intercultural Arts Research MA/PhD program, where she supports graduate students by serving on exam and dissertation committees, and through specialized independent studies in areas of gender, sexuality, and ethnomusicology. She supports the wider Southern Arizona community as Performance Curator of Tucson Meet Yourself, a folklife festival established in 1974 that seeks to bring together the peoples, cultures, and folkways of the Southern Arizona/Sonora region.

Prior to joining the career-track faculty at the University of Arizona, Kate was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Ethnomusicology at Macalester College in Saint Paul, MN (2016-2017). From 2014 to 2016, she held a series of lectureships in gender/sexuality studies and music at Sonoma State University; the University of California, Riverside; and, the University of California, Irvine. She received her Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from UC Riverside in June 2014.
