Based on the actions of selected scholars at the University of Vienna, the connection between the university, city, church and monarchy is investigated. Amongst the scholars who are taken under consideration are Henry of Langenstein, Nikolaus of Dinkelsbühl, Johannes of Gmunden, Johannes Cuspinian and many others. Not only general actions of these people, but also specific documents such as expert's reports of scholars from the university serve as arguments for the authority of this institution. For the second half of the 15th century the paper focuses on the political situation and the university's involvement in it. In 1485 the citizens of Vienna asked for advice regarding their capitulation to King Matthias Corvinus. Five years later the city requested an expert's report of the University of Vienna on the legitimacy of Maximilian I. as king of...

The parish is incorporated into the Cistercian monastery of Zwettl. The main method applied is the analysis of written sources like documents, contracts and bills concerning this parish as well as an accounts book of the fraternity of the Seven Sorrows of Mary in Rafings. The edition of the accounts book, which dates from the 16th century, is part of this paper. The fraternity was connected to the pilgrimage church "Maria Rafings" located in the parish of Windigsteig. Its analysis is essential for describing the social structure of this parish. The first research question examined the functions of the fraternity within society. It was found that the main purpose of this religious fraternity was to hold funerals and to commemorate the dead. Additionally, it aimed at renovating and equipping the parish church in Windigsteig and the pilgrimage church in Rafings. Moreover, the...
