Ihr steht eine enorme Handlungshemmung im Hier und Jetzt gegenüber. Längst ist uns klar, dass wir zu einer hohen Wahrscheinlichkeit auf einen tipping point zulaufen, doch gehandelt wird nur in der Medienindustrie. Die Katastrophe ist nicht mehr bloß Vision, sondern zunehmend etwas, das man bereits beim Lesen einer Zeitung, Ansehen einer Fernsehsendung usw. vorausahnen und dadurch vorab erleben kann. Die Fiktion ist als Simulation, um Verhaltensweisen im Falle antizipieren zu können, wahrzunehmen 2. Kein Experiment kann uns zeigen, was tatsächlich geschehen wird. Wir sind auf Deutungen und Gedankenexperimente angewiesen, da wir zwar festhalten können, was bereits in der Geschichte passiert ist, allerdings nicht im Zusammenhang mit der Industrialisierung und dem ihr einhergehenden CO2-Ausstoß. 3 Das Wetter, als örtlich begrenztes Phänomen, unterlag stets Schwankungen.
