Beatriz Silva
Beatriz Silva holds a Master's degree in Intercultural Studies Portuguese-Chinese and a Bachelor's degree in Oriental Languages and Cultures, both from the University of Minho, coordinated by Professor Sun Lam. During her degree, she obtained the second and first prize in the Chinese Bridge competition, promoted by the Confucius Institute Headquarters - Hanban, in Braga (2014) and Lisbon (2015), respectively, having, with the latter, represented Portugal in the same competition held at the international level in Changsha (China, 2015).
Since 2019 she has been attending a PhD in Artistic Studies - Art and Mediations, at NOVA Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, researching the role of revolutionary music and opera in Maoist China. In 2020, she published her first paper in the journal Diacrítica, entitled Music and Power in Confucius and Mao Zedong.
Professionally, since 2018, she has been working in the field of Chinese-Portuguese translation. At the same time, she collaborates with SPEAK, teaching Mandarin (basic level) and Chinese culture.
In her youth, she attended singing lessons with Inês Villadelprat, Joana Pereira and Sílvia Pinto, and subsequently won first prizes in the following competitions: Chinese Song Contest for International Students, promoted by Nankai University in Tianjin (2016); Concurso de Canções Chinesas Interpretadas por Não Nativos, promoted by the Macau Scientific and Cultural Center in Lisbon (2018); and Projeto Artístico – Festival da Canção, organized by the City Hall of Barcelos in the same city (2019).
