We identify as Latin Americans, and all of the authors except for one are currently based in Europe, Japan, Canada, and the U.S. We recognize that the experiences we share here are rooted in the different cultural-historical contexts we navigate, even if they are not fully representative of the richness and diversity of the region. Furthermore, we recognize that our group of authors lacks Indigenous and Afro-descent researchers. Lastly, our experiences are shaped by our scholarly upbringing and our place of residence.

LatinX is used here to refer to people of Latin American cultural or ethnic identity in the United States.

By invoking informal tactics, we refer to highly contextual ways to engage research participants. For example, we can lean into our cultural identities and personal experiences instead of our identities as researchers in order to build rapport and gain access to the communities we aim to work with.
