Briefly, the paper explores how the discipline of Psychology has selectively appropriated psychoanalytic ideas and vocabulary, repackaged terminology and intentionally obfuscates the conceptual origins of these ideas.
The idea for this paper came to me by noticing Horastein's use of "uncanny" twice in her paper and knowing the term uncanny had been further explicated by Freud in his essay "The Uncanny".

Acknowledging the existence of ‘spatiality of situation’ as a distinct perceptual category and form of consciousness consequently leads to the dissolution of the traditionally held notion of Cartesian mind-body dualism.

This environment affects all facets of our lives, consciously and unconsciously. The advent of personal communication technology has led us to devise new ways of instantaneously communicating with each other. Data exchange, in the form of instant text message exchange via personal cell phones, is a mainstream transaction. The popularity of text message exchanges has led to the development, creation and increasing use of emoticons embedded in the text message.
In this paper, I argue that emoticons are an attack on prose, leading to the decline of practitioner’s vocabulary and literacy, creation of situational ambiguity and a reduction in the formality of language discourse and use of prose.

Through some media theory and semiotics, describes how the "p value" in Psychology transmogrified from an iconic sign to a significant symbol that has been misrepresented and taken on its own meaning, and how this meaning as a significant symbol has had implications within the interpretation of statistical findings.
All and any commentary is encouraged and welcomed.

Though Jonathan Carary defines 'spectacle' as an "organization of appearances that are simultaneously enticing, deceptive, distracting and superficial" (Duchesne 3), it is arguable that this film employed spectacle elements to enhance its thematic underpinnings. Stephen Prince's suggestion that 'spectacle' can be utilized to investigate a film's intricacies (Duchesne 3) supports this claim. Rather than detract from the film's thematic meaning or underlying messages, a spectacle's grand portions and complexity highlight them by drawing a spectator's attention towards the spectacle's contents, inviting analysis. The scene "You're George McFly!" exemplifies the effectiveness of visual and audible elements of 'spectacle', which force the spectator to engage critically with the film.

Cinema Studies Polysemy and Jaws (1975) as phallus - Psychoanalysis , 2016

Firstly, I am not a model reader of film texts as a disclaimer. Polysemy is defined as "[T]he capacity for a sign (e.g., a word, phrase, etc.) or signs to have multiple related meanings (Duchesne p.11). This seems similar to linguist Ferdinand De Saussure's model, where although signs are arbitrary, a sign is composed of a signifier and a signified (De Saussure). Although screenwriters and directors attempt to create meaning by using various cinematic techniques and devices, including (but not limited to) props, staging, costume, and creating scenes, through their involvement with the images and the narrative's logic, the spectator projects and superimposes their own meaning onto the film to establish a "sense of order and coherence on the film's word" (Giannetti and Leach p.15). This is because each spectator brings with them a priori expectations predicated upon particular knowledge and "cultural codes and conventions [of] their time in history" (Duchesne p.2).
