Effects of Structured Solids on Regioselectivity of Dibromination of Naphthalene

The influence of structured solids (amorphous, lamellar and 3D crystalline) on the regioselectivi... more The influence of structured solids (amorphous, lamellar and 3D crystalline) on the regioselectivity of the dibromination of naphthalene using bromine at room temperature has been investigated. The more acidic amorphous catalysts and an acidic clay give rapid reactions and lead to a large preponderance of 1,4-dibromonaphthalene over the 1,5-dibromo compound, while calcined KSF clay, a bentonite material, after a short reaction time gives a small predominance of the 1,5-isomer. Longer reaction times lead to the equilibration of reaction mixtures, which means that the 1,4-isomer eventually predominates in all cases. Based on these observations, it has been possible to devise synthetically useful preparative procedures, involving direct room temperature reactions of bromine with naphthalene, for either 1,4-dibromonaphthalene or 1,5-dibromonaphthalene based on the use of different solids, namely Synclyst 13 and KSF clay, respectively.

One of these lubricates oil as the main component, 2-tert-amylnaphthalene derived from direct tert-amylation reaction of naphthalene over tert-amyl alcohol and zeolite of H-mordenite using an autoclave as closed system. The zeolites can be easily regenerated by heating and then reused ( Keith Smith et al., 2012). Its eco-friendly process and obeyed the 12th applied principles of green chemistry by measuring of some parameters specific for the environmental efficiency. This work includes the study of adsorption of phenol red dye by using spinel Co1- xCdxFe2O4 was p... more This work includes the study of adsorption of phenol red dye by using spinel Co1- xCdxFe2O4 was prepare by Co-precipitation method at different ratios of (0.2:0.8, 0.5:0.5, 0.8:0.2) and calcinations at temperature 600 0C for three hours. The conclusion showed that (0.5:0.5) percentage has high activity than other ratio at different temperature. The prepared powder was differentiated by X-ray diffraction, Fourier Transform Technique (FT-IR), UV-Visible Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

The greener technique was to create a natural cover to cultivate sandy lands by preparing its four layers derived from the available biomass, this technique meets with the criteria of sustainable environmental and economic development. The first layer composed of palm tree leaves, which was formed in the form of a woven fabric to support the layers of the green cover and assist in the fixation process of the green cover on the sand surface. Highly regioselective di-tert-amylation of naphthalene using different alcohols can be achieved o... more Highly regioselective di-tert-amylation of naphthalene using different alcohols can be achieved over a H-mordenite (HM) zeolite. For example, the tert-amylation of naphthalene using tert-amyl alcohol in cyclohexane over HM (Si/Al = 10) zeolite has been optimised to give a 70% yield of 2,6-dialkylnaphthalenes, of which 2,6-di-tert-amylnaphthalene was produced in 46% yield along with 2-tert-amyl-6-tert-butylnaphthalene (23%) and 2,6-di-tert-butylnaphthalene (1%). This has been achieved by varying the reaction time, temperature, pressure and amounts of tert-amyl alcohol and zeolite. No 2,7-dialkylnaphthalenes were seen under the conditions tried. The zeolites can be easily regenerated by heating and then reused.
