Therefore, pilot schemes that allow validating proof of concepts, experimenting with different technologies and services, and fine-tuning them before migrating them to actual scenarios, are especially important in this context. The IoT platform deployed across the engineering schools of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in the Moncloa Campus of International Excellence represents a good example of a test bench for experimentation with Smart City services. This paper presents the main features of this platform, putting special emphasis on the technological challenges faced and on the solutions adopted, as well as on the functionality, services and potential that the platform offers.

This is achieved by defining a common set of test cases that an implementation must pass to be considered compliant with a particular standard. The benefits of the conformance testing methodology have led major Standardization Organizations to its application to an increasing number of communication protocols (e.g. Asynchronous Transfer mode, Integrated Services Digital Network, Signaling System No. 7, etc.) Thus, nowadays it is common practice to find the definition of Abstract Test Suites (ATSs) along with the technical specifications of a protocol. Unfortunately, things are not that easy when it turns to apply an ATS to a real system. On the one hand, an ATS may consist of a considerable number of test cases. On the other hand, simple they may seem, their preparation and execution may require a long time for the...

The platform is able to analyse a request for a complex service, divide it into simple components, and combine several services and products, offered by different providers, into a solution that satisfies the complex request. The platform helps the user to refine or change the request until a suitable solution is found. After the user agreement, it confirms the transaction to the selected providers. Overall, the client can obtain a complex service, involving several suppliers, in the same way as a simple one. The main innovations of the platform are the use of ontologies to handle the static and dynamic aspects of complex services in different business areas, and the control of the transactional properties of complex services. The system exploits advanced technologies, such as multi-device publishing based on XML, mobile agents, the Enterprise JavaBeans architecture, and the Java 2 Pla...

A set of simulated and live experiments are used to investigate transport performance over X.25 networks. The transport mechanisms of interest (splitting, concatenation, and acknowledgement withholding) are described and the simulation results are presented. Finally, the simulation results are validated with live experiments over two concatenated X.25 networks (ACCUNET and IBERPAC). Use of the three mechanisms considered results in significant improvements in transport-user throughput
