Cecilia Castrillon
I was born in Ecuador, but in my childhood was brought to live in the USA. When I went to college in New York City, probably in need to find my roots, I decided to study Latin American Area Studies where I discovered the diversity of our Latin American Heritage. Later on back in Quito, Ecuador when I decided to go for my Master´s Degree, I again chose to investigate Latin American Area Studies with specialty of Cultural Policies. Quite differently, this took me beyond discovering mere historical diversities to a new Intercultural view of our Diverse Latin American Cultures. It is with this perspective that my thesis "El patrimonio en un escenario intercultural" develops.Having worked with the very interesting town of Cotacachi assisting them to conform cultural policies amidst an old traditional group of White Settlers which was loosing its power position to the newly conformed Native Indian government, my thesis centered on the very interesting Museo de las Culturas which at the time was in charge of "white-mestizos", as they identified themselves. Eventually, they said I was ungrateful for their collaboration in my thesis because there was a critical aspect regarding a lack of intercultural intervention in the museum. As for my work, I am a professional translator and language teacher who applies intercultural views whenever she can. The last few years, I have become involved in Mindfulness Meditation practice, teaching, learning from pragmatic, Buddhist, philosophical, psychological points of view.
