The document affirms that “true art, which is not content with playing variations on ready-made models, but rather insists on expressing the inner needs of man and of mankind in its time, cannot but be revolutionary and aspire to a complete and radical transformation of society… if only to deliver intellectual creation from the chains that bind it and to allow all mankind to raise itself to those heights that only isolated geniuses have achieved in the past”. Thirty years later, the German artist Joseph Beuys still believed art was the only truly revolutionary force that could transform society, writing in 1973 that “only art is capable of dismantling the repressive effects of a senile social system stumbling towards its final days”. But what does a “truly revolutionary force” mean in the context of capitalism,...

Abstract: This paper proposes some reflections on the relation-or the contact-between art and education. Using dialectics as a research structure, we intend to raise some contradictions present in current artistic practice, establishing points of contact between art and politics, mediated by education. This approach deals with the contemporary situation, making use of some philosophical concepts, presented here in a quick way. Through them, we hope to incite a critical reflection on the conflicting relationship between art and education, with a special focus on the importance for the artistic formation of the articulation of zones of irresponsibility.
