Methods: Children with burns (8-18 years old) attending one of the seven burn centers in the Netherlands and Belgium and their both parents were invited to participate. A total of 89 adolescents aged 11 years or older filled out the American Burn Association/Shriners Hospitals for Children Burn Outcomes Questionnaire (BOQ) at six months and 18 months post burn injury. Descriptive analysis were done and correlations between results of the adolescents, mothers and fathers were established. Results:Overall, the physical functioning scores were shown to be optimal in almost all participants (99%) and across the three informants. Adolescents reported better optimal scores than their fathers and –more pronounced– their mothers at most of the subscales, but on average the correlations were medium to high. Only the subscale ‘appearance’ showed a lower correlations between the adolescents and their parents, whereas both parents had medium to high inter-correlations. Statistically significant differences between the adolescent and the mother were found for the subscales ‘appearance’, ‘family disruption’ and ‘parental concern’ at six months. Conclusion: In general, the parents had congruent perceptions of the adolescent’s functioning. The reported scores of the three informants were quite similar, but mothers tended to report worse HRQoL than fathers and their children on the most of the subscales of the BOQ. It suggests that the proxy estimation can be used when the adolescents cannot provide the assessment themselves.

Método: revisão sistemática qualitativa realizada em quatro bases de dados eletrônica e que utilizou o Guideline Enhancing Transparency in Reporting the Synthesis of Qualitative Research.

This study aimed to develop and evaluate a conversation model for a spiritual approach with children and adolescents with cancer. It was a methodological study with a systematic approach in three stages: (a) review of the literature for the selection of photographs and guiding questions, (b) using an expert committee to evaluate photographs and preselected questions, and (c) cognitive interview with children and adolescents to test the methodology. The expert committee evaluated and selected 20 photos and their respective guiding questions. Fifteen children and adolescents hospitalized with cancer tested the spirituality conversation model and expressed feelings, values, beliefs, fears, and the meaning they give to life and illness. The implementation of the conversation model can contribute both to the clinical practice, facilitating care for the spiritual dimension of pediatric patients, and to qual...

The research question guiding this review was, “Are there potential relationships between mitochondrial metabolism markers and fatigue?” The literature search used three terms (mitochondria; fatigue; energy metabolism), which yielded 263 manuscripts and 22 theses/dissertations. The studies included in the review had to meet three criteria: (1) Include adult participants (≥18 years of age); (2) Show a relationship between mitochondrial energy metabolism and fatigue; (3) Be published in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. Of the 17 articles included for a full-text review, some had a cross-sectional design (6/17, 35%), and more than half (12/17, 70%) were published between 2015 and 2020. The predominant population studied were patients diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome (9/17, 53%). Most studies (15/17,...
