El presente estudio plantea una evaluación preliminar de las antiguas técnicas de manufactura emp... more El presente estudio plantea una evaluación preliminar de las antiguas técnicas de manufactura empleadas por los artesanos en el Coclé prehispánico. Los materiales de estudio son un conjunto de cerámicas arqueológicas recientemente halladas en el yacimiento de El Caño. La metodología empleada analiza la orientación y distribución de los desgrasantes en las pastas de cerámica mediante imágenes radiológicas. Los resultados obtenidos en esta aproximación no muestran claramente el empleo de la técnica del urdido como comúnmente se creía. Los patrones observados, por el contrario, muestran una distribución que podría asociarse a las técnicas de placas, del pellizcado o del moldeado.

El presente estudio tiene como objeto la caracterización de las antiguas técnicas de manufacturas... more El presente estudio tiene como objeto la caracterización de las antiguas técnicas de manufacturas primarias en la producción cerámica en el antiguo Coclé prehispánico. Los materiales de estudio son un grupo de vasijas seleccionadas por ser las formas más representativas y numerosas de cerámicas de El Caño: jarras globulares de cuello largo de varias vajillas, platos de borde engrosado de varias vajillas y ollas tipo Guácimo. La metodología empleada, la radiografía mediante rayos X, sirvió para identificar y caracterizar las trazas de formación directa (orientación y distribución de los desgrasantes, fracturas y grietas), producto del modelado.
Los resultados obtenidos en este estudio muestran variabilidad en las técnicas de manufacturas que fueron usadas para la elaboración de las cerámicas: los platos de borde engrosado eran modelados desde una sola pella de barro y ayudados mediante un molde; a las jarras, se les daba forma mediante el ahuecado y estirado y luego añadiendo el cuello mediante una placa enrollada y alisa; las ollas, eran modeladas desde una sola pella de barro realizado mediante el ahuecado y estirado. También fueron analizadas cerámicas de procedencia foránea (una olla globular sobre trípode), cuyas trazas de formación directa indica la unión de colombinos superpuestos, uno encima de otro, procedimiento usado en la técnica del urdido. Además, se ha podido observar la homogeneidad en la producción cerámica de las Vajillas Policroma, Roja y Guácimo.
