Colesterol total não nos diz nada, o que depende são as frações. Colesterol total é como se fosse seu primeiro nome (Maria, mas Maria de que?) EX: Um paciente faz um exame hoje, e a glicemia deu um resultado de 90mg/dl, daqui a 4 meses esse mesmo paciente repete os exames e desta vez a glicemia deu 98mg/dl. Essa variação é normal, e mesmo se esse paciente estivesse internado com acesso venoso onde fosse possível coletar seu sangue a cada 6hrs, esse resultado seria diferente a cada medição. Não é algo tão preciso ao ponto de levar em conta um subir ou descer de poucos pontos. Ao contrario da Hemoglobina glicada, que 0.1 tem importância por ser um indicador forte e que muda a cada 90 dias. LDL-A letra L significa LOW (BAIXA), ele é chamado de colesterol mal devido à letra L. (lipoproteína de baixa densidade). HDL-A letra H, significa HIGH (ALTA) por isso é chamada de colesterol bom. VLDL-A letra VL, significa VERY LOW (MUITO BAIXA). Mas, porque os médicos se preocupam tanto com o LDL que é baixo, mas não se preocupam com o VLDL que é muito baixo? Simples, não existe medicamento que baixe o VLDL, apenas medicamentos que baixem o LDL.
