In this thesis, it is analysed in what way the family is an interesting national allegory in Algerian francophone literature to familiarize the reader with the Algerian tragedy.

The paper supports the idea that alphabets are never mere representations of sounds as they are also an important identity trait of a certain community. In this paper, I focussed on Algeria. Algeria differs from the other countries of North Africa considering its traumatic past. Therefore, a secondary guideline in this paper will be to compare with the choice of script by Moroccan Berbers. In both countries, the choice of script for Tamazight has been disputed a lot. Nevertheless, the factors and implications of these debates differ a lot.
Note: This paper was part of a university course, which implicated a limited amount of time to work on it. In the following months, I would like to take a more profound look into this topic, with more Algerian respondents and more profound research. Therefore, this paper aims at presenting some preliminary tendencies of this research.
