The system comprises a mobile application that reads 2D codes placed along with the advertising imagery to recognize the ads and deliver some local interactions, plus a cloud computing environment that assembles tailor-made interactive spots presenting product offers and allowing to put orders, ask for directions, etc. Early validation experiments are reported that reveal positive reception of the concept among different end-users.

Although it is common to find individuals who actively collaborate in several social networks, existing tools do not consider their overall activity; on the contrary, they compute levels by focusing just on a specific online community. Various portals on the Internet offer technological platform where groups of students can meet native teachers and arrange conversation sessions in convenient dates and times. The students’ satisfaction is very important in this context because potential new users pay much attention to the comments and ratings provided by others in the past. Therefore, the portals implement simple mechanisms for the students to rate their experiences, and use the feedback so gathered to promote the teachers who get the best evaluations. Notwithstanding, the current online conversation portals do not implement any means to proactively supervise the formation of the sporadic groups of students, aiming to ensure that the conversations will be balanced, engaging and pleasant to everyone. In this paper we look at the question of whether social data mining and machine learning technologies can be used to maximise the chances that the people put into the same group will get on well together. Specifically, we present one approach based on mining personality traits and using Cortical Learning Algorithm to aid in the planning of the sessions.

The support available for the former is quite advanced nowadays, especially thanks to the devel- opment of recommender systems. On the contrary, in cases in which the user gets to know about interesting items casually, there is much place to provide him with better guidance and thereby increase the number of transactions accomplished online. The key aspects have to do with con- textualizing the selection of the items that will be offered to the users, delivering the information they may find more valuable and understand- able in the most accessible way, and identifying the most convenient providers taking into account not only price and availability but also the users' location. We describe a system that furnishes these features, relying on semantic and rule-based reasoning techniques to automati- cally compose interactive services that let the users browse details of (and purchase online) various kinds of items they might be interested in, as inferred from knowledge about their individual preferences, interests and needs. A prototype targeted at improving Digital TV advertising is described.

For this reason, is necessary more tools for the care, entertainment, and interaction of the elderly. This paper presents an application to foment social interaction among elderly people. This app is part of the SAFER platform, focused on meeting the needs of this part of population. The app stores in a database the profiles of the elderly with the types of events of their preference. A search is made on the Web of the events to be held in the city. A comparison is carried out based on contents and, if the characteristics of this event agree with those preferred by the elder, the event is recommended to the person indicating: place, date and time. In addition, the system recommends the formation of a sporadic social group made up of elders of similar preferences, with whom the elder can attend. Our initial implementation shows satisfaction in the users and a 64% attendance to the recommended events.

Building on the success of previous experiences in the area of serious games, we are investigating the potential of situational curiosity and serendipity to increase the retention of historical facts. We present a game designed to explore networks of relationships among the topics of upcoming classes (not necessarily History ones) and topics that may be of interest to their students in a given place and/or on a given date. The design of the game's concept is supported by an intelligent system that uses DBpedia and YAGO as the main sources of knowledge in the search for semantic links among concepts. The teachers are given tools to revise the meshes of concepts and relationships, to modify things and to introduce new relationships.

We present an approach to overcome those limitations by engaging the vehicles in collaboration to emulate an infrastructure of stationary virtual nodes, which can be made responsible for computing, sensing, storage and communication tasks. We present the architecture and the main procedures of the proposal, along with the results of simulations of the VCC service model known as Network as a Service (NaaS).

In this paper,we propose extending the current scope of recommender systems to better support trading activities, by automatically generating interactive applications that provide the users with personalized commercial functionalities related to the selected items. We explore this idea in the context of Digital TV advertising, with a system that provide personalized commercial functionalities, gathering contents from multiple sources and bring together semantic reasoning techniques, SWRL rules and new architectural solutions for web services and mashups.

The goal is to develop tailor-made services that exploit the particular context of the users, the possible similarities among their preferences and the technological capabilities of their terminals to establish ad-hoc communications. In order to overcome the intrinsic limitations of mobile devices, we explore the new concept of Sporadic Cloud Computing (SCC) that is aimed at providing each terminal with extra resources by exploiting the capabilities of the rest of devices connected to each SAN. To abstract the complexity stemmed from the mobility scenarios, SCC works with a virtualization layer that deals with a few static virtual nodes instead of a higher number of mobile real nodes. This allows to turn our SANs into reliable and stable communication environments to promote interactions among potentially like-minded strangers.
