To accomplish this, we used a computerized lexical analysis system to compare the Rorschach responses of 30 female psychiatric inpatient abuse survivors with those of a matched group of female psychiatric inpatients with no abuse history. We then replicated the results in a holdout sample of 20 additional female inpatients. Our findings suggest that childhood sexual abuse has enduring and identifiable effects on the language of abuse survivors.

However, such video-based programs have shown limited effectiveness among preschool-aged children, the group most vulnerable to abuse. This study sought to determine whether having preschoolers review those video segments they did not comprehend initially, would increase their comprehension of sex abuse prevention concepts. Children who reviewed the concepts learned significantly more than children who viewed the segment once, even though an adult co-viewer explained the content to them. This efficient and simple method of enhancing young children's comprehension holds great promise for improving video-based sex abuse prevention efforts.

Results are discussed in light of historical and current attitudes toward the use of hypnosis with psychotics. Respondents were selected from the 1980 membership directory of the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (SCEH). 80 respondents completed and returned the survey. Results indicate that the perceived usefulness of hypnosis with psychotics is currently quite high and negative attitudes toward its use quite low. The growth of the use of hypnotherapeutic techniques and the need for further research are discussed.

Men higher in public self-con-sciousness reported more sexual partners, but less pleasurable sexual experiences. Among women higher in private self-consciousness, using sex to assuage feelings of loneliness was associated with a greater number of sexual partners. However, higher levels of private self-consciousness coupled with a view of sex as a way to satisfy emotional needs predicted fewer sexual partners. A closer examination of how self-consciousness, attitudes toward sexual activity, and gender influence decisions to engage in high-risk sexual behaviors is proposed.

Five Rorschach variables were found to reliably differentiate early from late-abuse-onset groups. The pattern of group differences revealed that over half of
