Kris Wernstedt
In a sound-bitable word, I work on "risk," or human decision making under uncertainty. To follow this teaser, visit https://risk-kris.org.
More topically speaking, I have studied for more than two decades a variety of international and domestic policy and planning topics related to natural resources and environmental quality and protection, with emphases on climate variability and change, natural hazards, revitalization of contaminated and distressed properties, and, most recently, household solid waste in east Africa. Output from my research, which has been funded by the National Science Foundation, NOAA, EPA, USGS, several foundations, and other sponsors, appears in a variety of policy, planning, and engineering journals. My academic training trail include a PhD in City and Regional Planning from Cornell University and an MS in Water Resources Management from the University of Wisconsin. Prior to joining Virginia Tech, I worked at Resources for the Future, a non-profit, non-advocacy research organization in Washington, DC.
