This type of lexical relationship is difficult for nonnative learners to acquire because of its complexity, not only in terms of lexical use, but also in terms of particular linguistic awareness. Learners' collective corpora can be revealing in describing their transitional competence. The diagnostic of interlanguage specific difficulties makes it possible to evaluate the progression of a target language, to describe it, to identify its hegemonic variety and to create the most effective activities. In this article, we will discuss the issue of interlanguage in the learner corpora and language corpora for use in lexical learning in French as a foreign language lessons. We address questions that a learner of L2 French has, which are sometimes difficult to find answers to in scholarly grammars or L2 French workbooks.

It revealed that, to understand the concept of celebration in these cultures, the linguistic worldviews of jour, journée and their equivalents in Polish – dzień and in Lithuanian – diena should also be explored. Moreover, a partial synonymy between fête, jour and journée may result in their incorrect use of mainly word patterns, both lexical and syntactic, which can be a potential source of difficulties for French language learners. These observations were a starting point for the present study aiming to identify the linguistic worldviews of jour and journée in the sense of celebration and to compare them with their Polish and Lithuanian equivalents. This research is multidisciplinary, its objective being mainly didactic, yet the methodology is at the crossroads of corpus linguistics and cultural linguistics. Therefore, the paper starts with a focus on the integration of text corpora in foreign language teaching and with the definition of collocation being a key notion of corpus analysis. It is followed by a presentation of the results of our empirical study. It shows that the word journée is more frequently used than jour while talking about celebrations and that most of the events denoted by the analysed words are civil, not religious, as in the case of the words fête, święto and šventė. The corpus analysis provided word patterns of jour and journée that are applicable to French language teaching.

Collocations are an area of vocabulary which is difficult to master by non-native learners. This type of lexical relation often presents itself as a semi-frozen binary lexical co-occurrence. The meaning of collocations is often transparent in reception, while in production, it requires a special effort on behalf of the learner. In this paper, we have tried to verify this assertion by comparing the corpus of French language and that of learners, and to define the regularities of lexical combinations in the French interlanguage of Lithuanian learners with level B1. Thanks to the corpus at our disposal, we observed that nomino-adjectival collocations at this level are more frequent than verbal collocations. However, in the percentage of total, the number of collocations only represents a contingent part of the corpus. The corpus also reveals that...

Learners prefer some lexical combinations to others. Generally speaking, these combinations are determined by usage and by frequency of use in the target language. The question of frequency leads to characterizing the particular cases of co-occurrences as collocations (Anctil, Tremblay 2016). According to Tutin and Grossmann, “one often characterizes collocations by the fact that the meaning is transparent in reception (it is “guessed”), whereas, for a non-native speaker, it is difficult to produce the appropriate lexemes” (Tutin, Grossmann 2002). We will try to verify this statement and define the regularities of lexical combinations in L2 French interlanguage of Lithuanian learners. The aims of this presentation is to take stock of the frequencies and particulari...

The present study focuses on actual decomposition of NP in the predicate construction. This is when the attribute elements of a noun phrase are included in the predicate construct as factor-actualized determinants. In this position, the copula verb is merely a grammatical means of allowing the attribute to become a predicate (Gaulmyn, Basset 1991: 177).The aim of the study being a more thorough investigation of the criteria and peculiarities of producing this type of predicate constructs in learner language, the present research is based on the empirical material from the Lithuanian learner corpus. The paper briefly discusses the concept of the predicate construction and describes the process of compiling the learner corpus as well as the principles of data selection. The analysis of the NP in a predicate construction is then presented, and the characteri...

The skill also involves the understanding of the properties of lexical and grammatical combinatorics. The present analysis of the written production of Lithuanian learners of French as a Second Language (FSL) is based on an annotated corpus and focuses on apposition. The term refers to a noun to which it provides additional information on its quality or nature. Choosing apposition for the study is prompted its particular use for elucidation in French then makes it possible to compare its use by FSL learners of and native speakers. The use of apposition in L1 of the analysed level is not very frequent, which poses another question, namely, how Lithuanian learners convey information without apposition. We task ourselves with noting, the different uses...

The research is based on text corpora in these three languages. Its objective is to analyse the linguistic images of the word holiday and its Lithuanian and Polish equivalents and to examine their collocational (non)coincidence in order to systematize the teaching/learning of collocations to French learners. The aim would be to help students retain meaning and lexical association simultaneously, as well as to fix the structures they already partially know and to discover (inter)cultural aspects.

It analyzes the difficulties which Lithuanian learners face while studying the French language. The Lithuanian and French languages use different ways to express definition. The aim of this paper is to analyze the peculiarities of noun-phrase grammatical definition usage by Lithuanians learning French in their written language, as well as to evaluate its influece on the quality of their written language. The paper overviews the notion of definition, its types, the ways of expressing it in Lithuanian and French. More attention is paid to definition as noun-phrase grammatical category, which is important for reference coordination. The paper also presents the analysis of noun-phrase grammatical definition in the written works of the French language final examination.

The paper is devoted to the study of gourmandise as a component of the French and Belgian worldviews reflected in the French language paremias. The aim of the research is to determine its place in the hierarchy of values of the native speakers of French and its Belgian variant. The research material includes 202 units obtained from Dictionnaire de proverbes et dictons (121 units) and from Proverbes et dictons de Belgique francophonie (81 units). The research methods include semantic, axiological, quantitative, and comparative analyses. The results of the study indicate that 5,9% of French and 6,6% of Belgian units of the total number presented in the dictionaries are devoted to food and gourmandize, which proves that they occupy an important place in the hierarchy of values in both cultures.
