PhD Candidate, Political Sociology: Power, Place and Difference University of Amsterdam, AISSR (PhD defence in November 2019) Longitudinal ethnographic research (2011-2018) on the (transformative) narratives, political strategies, politicization and emancipation of undocumented immigrants in Los Angeles. Research Interests and Expertise: migration, integration, refugees, diversity, inclusivity, emancipation, identity/subjectivity, social movements, urban sociology, critical-, feministand postcolonial theory, qualitative research methods (ethnography, life-histories, narrative analysis, discourse analysis, policy analysis, interviewing and focus groups). 2013 – 2016 Lecturer Social Sciences University of Amsterdam and Utrecht University Over the past 5 years, I have been a lecturer and developed course material for 12 different academic courses, teaching, coaching and supervising more than 700 students. On average, students evaluated my teaching and supervising with a 9 (out of 10). In this theatrical multimedia show, we imagine; what if the Netherlands would be flooded and we would all have to flee? What do you take with you and what do you leave behind? How do you become a “deserving” migrant? Which Dutch or European values will become an obstacle? How to deal with border authorities, asylum procedures and adapting to a new culture/society? In the theatrical mockumentary/ crash course, refugees help prepare for such a disaster and function as the experts. 1 Curriculum Vitae Tara Fiorito 2012 – 2014 Documentary Film Director Undocumented and Unafraid in Los Angeles, Institute for Migration and Ethnic Studies 2014 Researcher - Kinderfaculteit Pendrecht in Rotterdam University of Amsterdam, Stichting de Verre Bergen Participatory action research on a social welfare/community project that offers extracurricular activities to children in a disadvantaged neighbourhood in the city of the Rotterdam (Pendrecht). The research focuses on whether the project 1) aids children in their cognitive and social-emotional development; 2) increases the level of professionalism of the neighbourhood organization that runs the project; 3) increases the level of social cohesion within the neighbourhood itself. 2012 Coordinator Research & Education - Master Urban Management University of Applied Sciences Amsterdam: School of Social Work & Law Within this function, I played a central role in the successful realization and accreditation of the new Master Urban Management. My main activities included: - Coordinating all research and educational activities; - Coordinating and administrating teachers, research projects and budgets; - Organizing events, meetings, lecturers, symposia; - Writing reports; Maintaining external relations with policy makers, local politicians, public administrators and civil society groups. 2009 – 2011 Project Secretary University of Applied Sciences Amsterdam: School of Social Work & Law For two years, I worked as project secretary for the “Aiming at Study Success” project, a project financed by the Ministry of Education with a budget of 1.1 million euro's. I was part of a small project team of 4 people that executed the overall project management for six professional bachelor degree programs. The subject and purpose of the project concerned enhancing the level of study success of especially non-western migrant students within the bachelor programs.
