The reader should recognize that assessment procedures are not the column's highest priority. The reason for the number of assessment articles is directly related to the number of manuscripts we receive in this area in contrast to those concerning instruction and program delivery issues. Beginning next month, PMT will attempt to dwell on intervention and program information for the next calendar year. In this issue Jackson, Farley, Zlmet, and Gottman describe the effects of alternative test administration conditions on the WISC-R test performance of emotionally disturbed students. The test scatter of learning disabled students on the WISC-R as reported by Tabachnick is also examined. Dean reports the stability and reliability of the PIAT when used with learning disabled children who display emotional problems. Finally, Stoneburner and Brown compare the performance of learning disabled adolescents on the PIAT and the WRAT. — DAS.

There has been no known psycho-educational intervention that has successfully taught couples the skills that they will need to preserve intimacy in their relationship, keep fathers involved with the baby, and help parents understand and appreciate infant development. This article reports on a research based and research tested two-day psycho-educational workshop designed to teach couples these skills while experiencing the transition to parenthood. ` Bringing Baby Home 3 Bringing Baby Home: A Workshop for New and Expectant Parents 1957 LeMasters claimed that 83% of new parents went through moderate to severe crisis during the transition to parenthood. His claims were initially refuted and subsequently strongly debated b...

For example, take these three situations: Jake is having trouble with his statistics homework, which is due tomorrow. His friend and roommate, Dave, is a whiz at math, so Jake tries to persuade Dave to stay home (rather than go to a party) and help him. Meanwhile, Su-Lin recently arrived in the United States as an international student and feels a lot of uncertainty about the university and student life. However, after joining a couple of student clubs and getting to know some of her classmates, she starts to feel more comfortable in her new surroundings. Kristi’s husband moves out of the house and tells her he wants a divorce. Rather than sitting at home alone, moping around and feeling sorry for herself, Kristi drives over to her parents’ house where she receives comfort and support from her mother.

First, we briefly review the laboratory research, clinical work, and the mathematics used to understand our results and build our theory. Then we describe the sound relationship house theory, constructive blueprints for managing conflict, and the three phases of love. We use the term love in the narrow sense of the primary emotions that draw people together to form a lasting, committed relationship between lovers, regardless of sexual orientation. Although we began with no theory at all, we were led by our data and our clinical work at the Gottman Institute.
