Dr. Kamal Ahmad Qureshi
Department of Phamaceutics
I have completed MSc in Microbiology, MPhil in Environmental Science, and PhD in Microbial Biotechnology. My research interests include the discovery of novel antimicrobial drug candidates from natural sources such as terrestrial, aquatic, and mangrove-based microorganisms and plants; the identification of novel antimicrobial drug targets; the biotransformation of some novel compounds by soil microbes; the use of rDNA technology; whole-genome sequencing and gene editing using CRISPR/Cas9; synthetic biology; and host-pathogen interactions. My routine research involves the isolation, purification, characterization, structural elucidation, and bioevaluation of novel antimicrobial drug candidates derived from soil organisms such as Streptomyces strains, Bacillus spp., etc. I am currently focusing on the discovery of anti-HIV drugs derived from soil microbes. My scientific interests are not restricted to microbiology, but begin with it and go endlessly.
