Conflict is recognized as being common occurrence in both everyday personal and professional nursing life and it is now generally agreed that conflict can be both problematic and potentially beneficial to both individuals and organizations. There is a large amount of anecdotal and narrative literature about the nature and sources of conflict which fails to reflect upon the complexities and theoretical perspective that exist. There are also few research studies which examine the nature of nursing conflict and how conflict is managed by nurse managers in the health care facility. The most important causes of conflict among nurses are differences in management strategies, the perceptions of employees, staff shortages, and differences in objectives, and competition between working groups. Conflict is a vast topic but the aim of writing this study presents a review of some aspects of conflict and its management and specifically investigates the conflict management strategies of nurse managers in a tertiary health care facility. There are 17 respondents which are the nurse managers, working as supervisors and head nurses on tertiary level health care facility in Zamboanga city. The results of this study have implications for people who work in the hospitals, whether practitioners or policy makers. Recommendations are offered to improve nurse managers’ work environment. Conflict can affect patient care if handled badly. Poorly handled conflict results in lower staff morale and poor retention, both adversely affect patient care.
