Byzantium (/bɪˈzæntiəm/ ; Greek: Βυζάντιον Byzántion) was an ancient Greek colony on the site that later became Constantinople, and later still Istanbul. Byzantium was colonised by Greeks from Megara in 657 BC.
The etymology of Byzantion is unknown. It has been suggested that the name is of Thraco-Illyrian origin, It may be derived from a Thracian or Illyrian personal name, Byzas. Ancient Greek legend refers to a legendary king Byzas, the leader of the Megarean colonists and founder of the city. The form Byzantium is a Latinization of the original name. Much later, the name Byzantium became common in the West to refer to the Eastern Roman Empire, the "Byzantine" Empire, whose capital Constantinople stood on the site of ancient Byzantium. This usage was introduced only in 1555 by the German historian Hieronymus Wolf, a century after the empire had ceased to exist. During the time of the empire, the term Byzantium was restricted to just the city, rather than the empire that it ruled.
Byzantium! is a BBC Books original novel written by Keith Topping and based on the long-running British science fiction television series Doctor Who. It features the First Doctor, Ian, Barbara, and Vicki.
Byzantium is an ancient Greek city near the Black Sea. Romans, Greeks, Zealots and Pharisee are all part of its mix.
The Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Vicki arrive for general sight-seeing. However, each soon has to face the possibility of being stranded in this place and time, alone and surrounded by political upheaval.
Byzantium is a live Linux distribution based on Porteus Linux that delivers easy-to-use, secure, and robust mesh networking capabilities. The goal of Project Byzantium is to develop a communication system by which users can connect to each other and share information in the absence of convenient access to the Internet. This is done by setting up an ad-hoc wireless mesh network that offers services which replace popular websites often used for this purpose, such as Twitter and IRC.

PODS, or Portable On Demand Storage, is a moving and storage company. It was founded in 1998 and is based in Clearwater, Florida.
PODS operates by delivering a storage container to the customer's house. The containers are constructed of plywood over steel frames, are available in three sizes. The customer can pack their items in it, lock it themselves with their own padlock, then have the unit stored at a warehouse, or it can be delivered to another location. The units and warehouse are owned by local franchises. PODS is working with Sprint Nextel to use wireless GPS that can be used to track trucks in the fleet and to give directions to drivers making deliveries. PODS was bought in 2014 by the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan.
PODS was founded in 1998 by Peter Warhurst who was looking to expand his family's storage business. He invented PODS containers, as well as a hydraulic lift system that enables operators to easily deliver and transport the units, which he named PODZILLA. In 2005, PODS grossed over $200 million in revenue. In addition, as of 2005, PODS was still privately owned, however, PODS is now franchised in 45 states, and logs 2,500 pickups and deliveries a day. Between 2005 and August 2009, PODS service expanded to include 48 states, as well as Australia and Canada.
