Mike (novel)

Mike is a novel by P. G. Wodehouse, first published on 15 September 1909 by Adam & Charles Black, London. The story first appeared in the magazine The Captain, in two separate parts, collected together in the original version of the book; the first part, originally called Jackson Junior, was republished in 1953 under the title Mike at Wrykyn, while the second half, called The Lost Lambs in its serialised version, was released as Enter Psmith in 1935 and then as Mike and Psmith in 1953 – this marks the first appearance of the popular character of Psmith.

Plot introduction

The first half of the story, found in Mike at Wrykyn, introduces Michael "Mike" Jackson. Mike is the youngest son of a renowned cricketing family. Mike's eldest brother Joe is a successful first-class player, while another brother, Bob, is on the verge of his school team. When Mike arrives at Wrykyn himself, his cricketing talent and love of adventure bring him success and trouble in equal measure.

The second part, also known as Enter Psmith or Mike and Psmith, takes place two years later. Mike, due to take over as cricket captain at Wrykyn, is withdrawn from the school by his father and sent to a lesser school, called Sedleigh. On arrival at Sedleigh, he meets the eccentric Rupert Psmith, another new arrival from the superior school of Eton. Becoming fast friends, the two eschew cricket and indulge in all manner of high-jinks and adventures.

Kasakela Chimpanzee Community

The Kasakela chimpanzee community is a habituated community of wild eastern chimpanzees that lives in Gombe National Park near Lake Tanganyika in Tanzania. The community was the subject of Dr Jane Goodall's pioneering study that began in 1960, and studies have continued ever since. As a result, the community has been instrumental in the study of chimpanzees, and has been popularized in several books and documentaries. The community's popularity was enhanced by Dr Goodall's practice of giving names to the chimpanzees she was observing, in contrast to the typical scientific practice of identifying the subjects by number. Dr Goodall generally used a naming convention in which infants were given names starting with the same letter as their mother, allowing the recognition of matrilineal lines.

Cowboy (Kid Rock song)

"Cowboy" is a single by Kid Rock from his album Devil Without a Cause. The song's rapping style has been adapted by country artists like Toby Keith, Trace Adkins and Blake Shelton. Musicians inspired by this song include Uncle Kracker, Jason Aldean, Big & Rich, and Eric Church who parodies Kid Rock's song "Rock 'N Roll Jesus" with his song "Country Jesus". Kid Rock actually did this first in 1993 on the song "Desperate-Rado" on his independent release The Polyfuze Method, but "Cowboy" broke into the mainstream.

Kid Rock describes the song as "Lynyrd Skynyrd meets Run-D.M.C.." The song uses dobro, slide, banjo and a ragtime piano, which was a sample of The Doors' "L.A. Woman". The song was originally rejected by Atlantic Records, after Kid Rock told them it was the best song he had written to that point.

The song is about how Kid Rock had foreseen his move to Hollywood to become a star. Since then he has accomplished everything the song predicted. "Cowboy" peaked at 82 on the Billboard Hot 100, 34 on The Top 40, 5 on Mainstream Rock Chart, and 10 on the Modern Rock charts. The song is used as the walk-in music for UFC fighter Donald Cerrone. This song was used for the first promotional commercial for WrestleMania XXV. An instrumental remake of this song was used by Jeff Jarrett in WCW. "Cowboy" appeared in the movies Shanghai Noon, Ready To Rumble, Serving Sara, Matchstick Men and Coyote Ugly.

Caber

Caber is one of the Celtic gods of Avalon, a warrior god. The character, created by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz, first appeared in Thor #398 (Dec. 1988).

Caber joined his friend Leir and the other Celtic gods in aiding the Asgardians in their battle against the forces of the Egyptian god Seth. With Leir, Caber next attacked the camp of the Fomorians, the traditional enemies of Avalon. Leir wished to claim Sif as his bride, so Caber followed him to Asgard on Leir's request. Caber and Leir were captured by the Warriors Three. Caber clashed with Heimdall in Asgard, and then later arrived on Earth with Leir and Sif. Caber, Leir, and Sif then traveled to the Black Galaxy and found Thor there. The gods then traveled to Asgard. Caber, Leir, and Hercules then battled Surtur and Ymir. Caber then witnessed Leir's defeat in Leir's duel with Sif.

Caber possesses the typical powers of a member of the race of superhumans known as the Celtic gods of Avalon. This includes superhuman strength, speed, durability, stamina, and reflexes, and an extremely long lifespan.

Cowboy (M*A*S*H)

"Cowboy" was the eighth episode of the M*A*S*H television series. Originally shown on November 12, 1972 and repeated May 6, 1973, it was written by Bob Klane and directed by Don Weis. It is the only first season episode listed in TV Guide as a "classic episode".

Overview

"The Cowboy," a chopper pilot whose nickname stems from his gun holster belt and cowboy hat, arrives at the 4077th with a shoulder wound. He is anxiously awaiting a letter from his wife, who he fears is leaving him for another man ("She's probably off with some rodeo rider; she's a sucker for a 10-gallon hat!"). The Cowboy wants to be sent home before his marriage completely falls apart, but Henry refuses, stating that The Cowboy's wound is not serious enough to merit a stateside ticket. Bad luck then follows Henry wherever he goes: he gets shot at while golfing, his tent gets flattened by a driverless jeep, and the latrine is blown up with him inside it. Deciding to leave camp for a while, he is nearly killed when his desk chair explodes.
