Pocket

A pocket is a bag- or envelope-like receptacle either fastened to or inserted in an article of clothing to hold small items. Pockets may also be attached to luggage, backpacks, and similar items. In older usage, a pocket was a separate small bag or pouch.

Origins

In European clothing pockets began by being hung like purses from a belt, which could be concealed beneath a coat or jerkin to discourage pickpocketing and reached through a slit in the outer garment.

The word appears in Middle English as pocket, and is taken from a Norman diminutive of Old French poke, pouque, modern poche, cf. pouch. The form "poke" is now only used dialectically, or in such proverbial sayings as "a pig in a poke".

Historically, the term "pocket" referred to a pouch worn around the waist by women in the 17th to 19th centuries, mentioned in the rhyme Lucy Locket.

Types

A watch pocket or fob pocket is a small pocket designed to hold a pocket watch, sometimes found in men's trousers and waistcoats and in traditional blue jeans. However, due to the decline in popularity of pocket watches, these pockets are rarely used for their intended purpose.

Pocket (song)

"Pocket" is Ai Otsuka's 16th (17th overall) single released under the avex trax label. It is her third (fourth) single to be released in 2007. This is her first single to be released after her fourth album, approximately two months after Love Piece. This is Otsuka's first original single since her debut single "Momo no hanabira", which sold 44,822 copies, to sell less than 100,000 copies.

Billiard table

A pool table varies in many different sizes and can come with different sized balls such as American pool balls which are 60mm and BlackBall pool balls which are 55mm. A billiard table or billiards table is a bounded table on which billiards-type games (cue sports) are played. In the modern era, all billiards tables (whether for carom billiards, pool or snooker) provide a flat surface usually made of quarried slate, that is covered with cloth and surrounded by vulcanized rubber cushions, with the whole elevated above the floor. An obsolete term is billiard board, used in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Cushions

Cushions (also sometimes called "rail cushions", "cushion rubber", or rarely "bumpers") are located on the inner sides of a table's wooden rails. There are several different materials and design philosophies associated with cushion rubber. The cushions are made from an elastic material such as vulcanized (gum or synthetic) rubber. The chiefly American jargon "rails" more properly applies to the wooded outer segments of the table to which the cushions are affixed.

Plum, Pennsylvania

Plum is a borough in Allegheny County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. The population was 27,126 at the 2010 census.

Plum is often referred to as "Plum Boro" or more correctly "Plum Borough" by locals to distinguish it from its previous status as a township. It was founded as Plum Township in 1788 and was reorganized as a borough in 1956. The borough took its name from nearby Plum Creek.

History

Allegheny County was formed on September 24, 1788. Allegheny County was originally made up of seven townships, and Plum was one of those original seven. Originally extending as far south as Versailles (modern-day North Versailles Township), east to the county line, west to Penn Township, and north to the Allegheny River, Plum Township was founded on December 18, 1788. Plum has shrunk slightly over the years, but still retains its status as one of the largest municipalities within Allegheny County.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 29.0 square miles (75 km²), of which 28.6 square miles (74 km²) is land and 0.4 square miles (1.0 km²), or 1.34%, is water.

List of Ranma ½ characters

The Ranma ½ manga series features a cast of characters created by Rumiko Takahashi. The story revolves around the Japanese teenage boy Ranma Saotome who has trained in martial arts since early childhood. As a result of an accident during a training journey in China, he is cursed to become a girl when splashed with cold water, while hot water changes him back into a boy. Throughout the series Ranma seeks out a way to rid his curse, while his friends, enemies and many fiancées constantly hinder and interfere.

Many of the characters are similarly cursed to turn into animals or other creatures when splashed and are skilled in different and unusual types of martial arts. The large cast's intricate relationships with one another, unusual characteristics, and eccentric personalities drive most of the stories. Although the characters and their relationships are complicated, they rarely change once they are firmly introduced and settled into the series.

Plum is a deep purple color, such as that shown at right (color #8E4585), which is a close representation of the average color of the plum fruit.

As a quaternary color on the RYB color wheel, plum is an equal mix of the tertiary colors russet and slate (also known as olive).

The first recorded use of plum as a color name in English was in 1805.

Pale plum

This color is paler than the color at the head of this article (color #8E4585)—paler than the color of an actual plum.

Persian plum (prune)

This is the color traditionally called prune because it is a representation of the average color of prunes. Prune is the French word for "plum", but in English the name "prune" is applied to dried plums. This color is a representation of the color of cooked dried plums (prunes).
