Creating World Views: Work-Expenditure Calculations for Funnel Beaker Megalithic Graves and Flint Axe Head Depositions in Northern Germany2024 •
The creation, maintenance, and modification of prehistoric built spaces and structural landscapes required communities that engaged and interacted collectively. Starting from the appearance of early monumentality and depositional behaviour in Funnel Beaker communities, we trace the variation in this phenomenon among three study areas in what is now northern Germany. In doing so, we build on a specific perspective and approach, namely that of work-expenditure calculations for megalithic graves and flint axe heads. In the process, variable dynamics of construction and deposition activities within the Early and Middle Neolithic are revealed, which we regard as differentiated translations of widespread impulses, adapted to the needs of different socio-cultural communities. The similar developments seen in flint axe head depositions and in the construction of megalithic monuments are indicative of evolving spaces of memory, landscapes of cooperative collaboration, and an increasing structuring of local environments that seem to follow a specific understanding of, and interaction with, space.

XIV Seminario de Historia de la Filosofía española e iberoamericana (Salamanca, 20-23 de septiembre de 2004)Many researchers from different areas - from sociology, social psychology and anthropology - believe that the relentless spread of digital "furniture" (smartphones and tablets in the first place) is contributing significantly to the modification of social behavior, altering quality and perception of interpersonal relationships. The crucial impulse to the affirmation of Digital Mobility has been impressed by the enormous development of ubiquitous computing guaranteed by mobile devices and made available to end users by the proliferation of apps. Ubiquitous computing is an advanced model of human-computer interaction that allows people to integrate the processing and use of information in everyday devices. There is an almost infinite number of apps that alleviate us from thinking about the thousands of daily tasks and allow us to find, in real time, the solution to all our problems. Apps, in other words, have the intrinsic characteristic to meet specific objectives in a rapid and inexpensive way for the user. This can induce in the users, two opposite attitudes: on the one hand they can induce a strong dependence, leading us to see the world and our own lives as an ordered set of apps; on the other hand, the potentialities offered by apps are extraordinary. As a matter of fact, many apps provide users with advanced technological tools that allow them to write music, draw pictures and texts, create and inhabit virtual environments, stimulate interactivity and interpersonal communication in addition to expanding the awareness of young people and give them the opportunity to access experiences and identities located outside of their everyday environment. They can also facilitate the creation of ties of belonging groupal, increasing collective interactions. The question is: Do apps inaugurate the era of connective intelligence - as claimed by De Kerkhove - namely an augmented mind that subsumes and interconnects memories, skills and creative abilities of the individuals in the network, or will they represent only an additional tool in the market aimed at influencing the behaviour of individuals?
