This document serves as the introduction to the Lightning Path (LP). As precise as I can be in this moment, the Lightning Path is a system of Human Development designed to provide, if not a wholly new, at least a modernized, clarified, and decolonized view of human beings, what it means to be human, what it means to be healthy, what kind of environment we need to provide in order that our children might grow up healthy, why we’re all, to one degree or another, sick and disconnected, and what we need to do to return ourselves to full health and full connection.

Based on preliminary evaluation results and peer review of the schema, a second iteration of the Leaning Path Specification has evolved (ID7. 12). Its applicability and benefits are currently demonstrated by the development of a Learning Path Editor, which allows authors to create learning paths that are structured according to the learning path specification. These learning paths are used by the PDP Planning tool for presenting lifelong learners with a personal development plan that they can further edit toward their needs.

This primer serves as an introduction to the work of Longpath Labs, a futures think tank and innovations lab that seeks to leverage the transformative opportunities of the Intertidal—the complex adaptive space between paradigms—to help cultivate long-term ways of thinking, behaving, and being. With an aim toward collective flourishing and a concern for both immediate and far futures, Longpath asserts that a shift in mindset is essential. A Longpath Mindset is initiated by mindful self-awareness and three core practices: futures thinking, transgenerational empathy, and telos-alignment.
