MC70 potentiates doxorubicin efficacy in colon and breast cancer in vitro treatment1995 •
A triazinoaminopiperidine derivative synthesized as a modulator of multidrug resistance, S9788, was investigated in the human brest adenocarcinoma MCF7DXR cell line expressing P-glycoprotein. In addition to being less sensitive to daunorubicin, the resistant cell line showed dramatic alterations in the subcellular distribution of daunorubicin, as observed via fluorescence microscopy and quantified via tritiated daunorubicin nuclear distribution analysis. Compared to verapamil and cyclosporin A at 2 and 5 μol/liter, S9788 proved to be more potent in restoring the cellular accumulation and the subcellular distribution of daunorubicin in the resistant cells. Significant activity of S9788 was observed at 2 μol/liter, which is clinically achievable, and S9788 restored the nuclear distribution of the drug to the level observed in the parental sensitive cell line. Consequently, the restoration of the cytotoxicity of daunorubicin by S9788 was nearly complete (>90%) at 2 μol/liter, whereas cyclosporin A reached this level of activity at 5 μol/liter, and verapamil was always less active at both concentrations. These results suggest that the modulation of multidrug resistance by S9788 is not only related to the enhancement of the cellular accumulation but also especially by the restoration of the subcellular distribution of the drugs to their nuclear sites of action. © 1995 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

Comparative study of the sensitivities of cancer cells to doxorubicin, and relationships between the effect of the drug-efflux pump P-gp2014 •
Multi-drug resistance (MDR) of cancers to chemotherapy including doxorubicin (DOX) is mediated by several factors. To design an effective therapy for the treatment of chemotherapy-resistant cancers, it is essential to explore the elements responsible for mediating MDR. However, exploring these factors in detail in a wide range of tumor types is challenging as several critical analytical steps are involved. Here, we demonstrated the way of exploring the factors mediating MDR in the tumor types without performing the analysis at the molecular level of cells. The sensitivities of 15 different types of cancer cells to DOX were evaluated, and the role of P-glycoprotein (P-gp), one of the major efflux-pumps, was explored. A correlation curve was developed between the intracellular amounts of DOX and the sensitivities of cells, and, based on this correlation, the cells were classified in response to the involvement of P-gp that mediates MDR. P-gp plays an active role in mediating MDR of ca...

Are Zeno’s Paradoxes of Motion Fallacies? Evidence from the Hebrew Aristotelian Logical Tradition2024 •
Following the Arabic tradition, medieval Hebrew commentaries on Aristotle’s Topica and De Sophisitics Elenchis understood Zeno’s paradoxes of motion as dialectical fallacies related to widely-held opinions or incorrect inductive arguments. Following Al-Fārābī and Averroes, Hebrew Aristotelian commentators include discussions of Zeno’s paradoxes of motion in their commentaries on Topica and De Sophisitics Elenchis. Aristotle’s own discussions of Zeno’s paradoxes in those works, however, merely allude to the difficulties without presenting solutions. Indeed, they point elsewhere, most likely to the Physica where Aristotle provides a detailed account of those paradoxes and their solutions. The shift in emphasis in the discussions of Zeno’s paradoxes of motion as dialectical paradoxes in the Topica and De Sophisticis Elenchis in the works of Al-Fārābī and Averroes was likely due to the importance of those paradoxes for Kalām atomism. Hebrew commentators inherited this approach, even though they did not operate in the context of the Kalām.
The research aims to use "Performance Focused Activity-Based Costing System, PFABC" to improve productivity and evaluate performance in the industrial sector in Iraq. The Namazi 2009 model, which consists of nine steps, was used in one of the industrial institutions in Iraq / General Company for the tire industry in Najaf. Through the application, researcher has reached the possibility of implementing PFABC in the Iraqi manufacturing environment. If it is applied, it will bring several advantages such as reducing costs, increasing productivity and improving the performance evaluation process.
