This book redefines modern Indian literature from a cosmopolitan comparative perspective inclusive of literature in English from India and the diaspora, in native languages, and works by non‑Indians. It shows how, since the mid‑19th century, Indian literary modernity pursued the conjunction of the sensuous and ethical/spiritual that characterized its three traditions (Sanskritik, Persian, and folk culture) while the encounter, both receptive and oppositional, with “the West” vastly expanded the Indian literary sphere. Aesthetics and ethics are not antithetical in the Indian cultural space, but the quest for an exclusive Indian identity versus universalist approaches offsets concerns for social justice as well as enjoyable embodied communication. The literary constellation, in many languages, now formed in and around India can be better apprehended as a virtual Cosmopolis, a commonwealth of elaborate emotions. The versatile figure of Hanuman metaphorically flies across this Ocean of Stories to make us discover new worlds of experience.

Just as the early Fathers implemented philosophical concepts of their era, modern theological discourse should address contemporary scientific positions and sociocultural dynamics too. Apart from criticiz- ing social sciences for lacking a clear moral or spiritual perspective, mod- ern theological discourse is called also to assimilate notions and pro- cesses of contemporary anthropological models in a mutually accept- able understanding. It is an open challenge for theological discourse to discuss more deeply key concepts of psychoanalytic theory such as “de- sire” (which is a concept much wider that sexual instinct alone) in its profound unconscious dimension, or the “archetypes” (such as those of mother and father), according to Jungian Psychology, which crucially determine one’s development and apparently have not enjoyed a seri- ous analysis in patristic discourse and theological anthropology.
REPLAYING JAPAN 3, 2021
This paper focuses on Virtual YouTubers (VTubers) who are virtual anime live-entertainers in Japan. The goal of this research paper is to analyze VTubers in terms of traditional Japanese theater art forms and character narratives. Fifty-five VTubers were interviewed and the results showed that not only are there similarities between traditional Japanese theater and VTubers, but also VTuber performances are shaped by different socio-cultural values that come into play as they perform their virtual characters. This research contributes to our understanding of a broader Japanese socio-cultural context behind the masquerading practice of VTubers.
