With the semantic web, data becomes machine-readable and ontologies define the data. Ontologies in any domain are heterogeneous due to rapid increase in ontology development and differences in views of developers. Agents can fully understand the data only if the correspondences between ontologies are known. Various ontology alignment systems have been developed to automatically discover such correspondences. However, human involvement is still indispensible because the results provided by fully automatic systems are not always complete or precise. This paper introduces Falcon-AO++, an extension of the Falcon-AO alignment system that supports the interactive contribution of a domain expert in the matching process. The evaluation results have shown that contribution of an expert and matching ability of matchers can improve alignment results.

Ontology mapping as a semantic data integration approach has evolved from traditional data integration solutions. The core problems and open issues related to early data integration approaches are also applicable to ontology mapping on the Semantic Web community. Therefore, in this review the authors present the related literature, starting from the traditional data integration approaches, in order to highlight the evolution of data integration from the early approaches. Once the roots of semantic data integration have been presented, the authors proceed to introduce the state-of-the-art of the ontology mappings systems including the early approaches and the systems that can be compared through the Ontology Alignment Initiative (OAEI).

Ontologies comprise an explicit specification of a domain conceptualisation. However, their design, structure and elements may significantly vary, even for a specific concept, given their subjective nature, which highly depends on their purpose and the view from which they are developed. Especially in cases that the ontologies serve as a means for linking different data sources and enabling meaningful information exchange, a variety of mismatches needs to be handled. This paper presents a web-based ontology alignment tool which supports the whole alignment process with particular focus in complex mismatches. This tool facilitates ontologies alignment by suggesting possible correspondences which are automatically recalculated as the alignment process progresses.

Abstract. Ontology matching consists of finding correspondences between entities of two ontologies. OAEI campaigns aim at comparing ontology matching systems on precisely defined test cases. Test cases can use ontologies of different nature (from simple directories to expressive OWL ontologies) and use different modalities, e.g., blind evaluation, open evaluation, consensus. OAEI-2010 builds over previous campaigns by having 4 tracks with 6 test cases followed by 15 participants. This year, the OAEI campaign introduces a new evaluation modality in association with the SEALS project. A subset of OAEI test cases is included in this new modality which provides more automation to the evaluation and more direct feedback to the participants. This paper is an overall presentation of the OAEI 2010 campaign. 1

This is a general review of a study season carried out at the site of Kobeba in November December 2022 during which time targeted additional excavations and innovative on-site training and classroom lectures were delivered with the support of the Friends of the Middle East of the British Museum. Two preliminary reports on the work at Kobeba have been published in 'Sumer' in accordance with the requirements of the State Board of Antiquities and Heritage in Iraq, with two longer peer-reviewed research papers published in 'ash-Sharq', and Arabic-only copies of the field reports published online on Academia.edu.
