This article discusses a wooden altar cross covered with mother-of- pearl plaques carved with relief images. The figure of the Crucified Christ is surrounded by four evangelists, at the foot is the skull of Adam; below is Our Lady of Mercy with her heart pierced by a sword. At the top of the cross is a plaque with the monogram of Margarita Alacoque. In the wooden base is a cave where a mother-of-pearl figurine of Christ is placed; Jesus is represented with a burning heart in his hands. On the back of the cross 14 mother-of-pearl medallions symbolize the 14 stops on the Way of the Cross. Apparently,, the cross was made in the Holy Land and is a pilgrimage relic reminiscent of a visit to Jerusalem. Judging by the analogies, the place of its making was Bethlehem, famous for its wood and mother-of-pearl carvers. The cross dates to the second half or last quarter of the 19th century. The quality of the carving and analogous pieces in Russian museums suggest that the cross was created for a high-ranking traveler from France who visited the Holy Land. This person was an admirer of Margaret Alacoque and the Order of the Burning Heart. In addition to issues of attribution, this article touches on such various aspects as the use of olive wood for souvenirs, features of the iconography of the Crucifixion, Orthodox and Catholic chapels at Golgotha, and the theme of Christ – the Holy Burning Heart.

Multiple factors of the natural environment have been found to impact and mold the phonetic patterns of human speech, among which the potential correlation between sonority and temperature has garnered significant attention. We leverage a large database containing basic vocabularies of 5,293 languages and calculate the average sonority for each language by adopting a universal sonority scale. Our findings confirm a positive correlation between sonority and temperature across macroareas and language families, whereas this relationship cannot be discerned within language families. We suggest that the adaptation of the distribution of speech sounds within languages is a slow process which is moreover insensitive to minor differences in temperature experienced by speakers as they carry their languages to new regions. Nevertheless, at the global level a solid relationship emerges. Furthermore, we delve deeper into the nature of the relationship and contend that it is mainly due to cold temperatures having a weakening effect on sonority. This research provides compelling additional evidence that climatic factors contribute to shaping language and its evolution.

Objective to adapt and validate the Instrumental Expressive Social Support Scale (IESS) in a sample of older people. Method methodological study. The sample of 964 community-dwelling older people was randomly divided into two groups. The first group was used as a calibration sample to study the number of factors underlying social support through Principal Axis Factoring, and the second group as a validation sample to test the “best fit” model through Confirmatory Factor Analysis. Results exploratory Factor Analysis suggested a three-factor solution, which was confirmed by Confirmatory Factor Analysis. The factors were similar to those in the pre-existing dimensions of the original instrument and were named as Sense of control (α = 0.900), Financial support (α = 0.802), Familiar and socio-affective support (α = 0.778). Confirmatory Factor Analysis showed acceptable fit. The model’s goodness-of-fit indexes were satisfactory (χ2/df = 5.418; CFI = 0.903; NFI = 0.884; RMSEA = 0.098). The...
