Libraries are created as an authenticated and authoritative parlance where knowledge of all human endeavor can be acquired, processed, preserved and made easily accessible by all irrespective of sex, status, religion, race or color. Its primary role is to meet the information need of its users and the society at large. These were achieved previously through conventional means of library services which includes the traditional means of acquiring, storing, retrieving, cataloguing and classification, circulation etc. of information. With the introduction of Information and communication technology library and information services have experienced unprecedented changes and transformation. This paper looked into conceptual background of ICT and library, the impact of ICT in libraries, their setbacks which pose as threats to the future of libraries in this ICT era, and also made possible suggestions on creating an ICT base libraries
Information and communication technology (ICT) is the most influencing factor of today’s information society. It covers internet service provision, information technology equipment and services, media and broadcasting, library and documentation centers, network based information services and other related communication activities. This has made it essential for library management to inculcate the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into the library practice because the primary aim of every library is to satisfy the users’ need within a shortest period of time. This work reviews ten articles on the relationship between Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the library practice.
— The study presents the needs of library services in information and communication environment for the libraries and the information centers. The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has transferred the library services all around the world, now days most of the information recorded in electronic format. ICT is playing a vital role to improve the performance of libraries. & digitization of the libraries facilitates easy & immediate access to information. A library service in ICT environment has availed the libraries to keep pace with the latest development .This has additionally facilitated precision, flexibility and reliability in the library and information centre. Library services reduce the perpetual work and preserve them and brings precision and speed & keeps material safe. Keywords— Resource sharing, library networking, user awareness, electronic library, library management.

Contemporary libraries are under serious threat due to the increasing pressure of achieving higher level of performance in this Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) environment. Academic libraries are facing many challenges posed by the contemporary environment, most of which are the result of ICT and Digital Revolution. This paper discusses the impact of Digital environment on library professionals. It discusses the need for acquiring core competencies and new skills to manage the modern day academic libraries. It further discusses different sets of skills required for Library Professionals to manage the contemporary change brought up by technology accelerated environment. This paper also emphasizes that the acquisition of good qualities for library professionals has become essential to survive in this ICT environment.

Public library is the nerve of the education and culture and the National Library is in core center in the system and it has resulted ongoing changes in a society’s economy, education, policy, tradition and religion.In the public library system, National Library is the apex library and extensive use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in its housekeeping operations and activities has tremendously impacted the type of services delivered by public libraries in the society. In present study the ICT based library services provided in a public library has been discussed with special reference to the National Library of India. The paper also explores the possibility of introducing other modern ICT based user services where the National Library can initiate those facilities to its users. The main objective of this study is to examine the services provided by National Library of India to its esteemed users.
