This study examined Egyptians’ attitudes towards subtitling English sitcoms in Standard Arabic (SA) and Egyptian Colloquial Arabic (ECA), using a scene from the American sitcom Friends as a case study. It aimed to investigate the changing perceptions of subtitling in dialect, identify the driving forces, and assess the leading agents behind this change. The study utilized quantitative data from two online questionnaires completed by 261 participants classified by gender, age, and educational level, and qualitative data derived from their comments. The questionnaires were designed to evaluate participant preferences and specific aspects such as humor, readability and closeness to Egyptian culture. The results show that the ECA subtitle is rated as more humorous and closer to Egyptian culture, although perceived as less readable compared to the SA subtitle. They also reveal that younger participants, particularly females, show a greater preference for the ECA subtitle. Males across all educational levels tend to prefer the SA subtitle, while females with lower educational levels exhibit the highest preference for the ECA subtitle. The study highlights the increasing significance of colloquial dialects in shaping cultural representations as well as the influence of factors such as age, gender, and education on subtitling preferences. Furthermore, the study considers the implications of these results for subtitling practices and policies in Egypt and similar diglossic environments.

This essay explores the ontology of non-actuality. The term 'non-actuality' refers to being insofar as it is not actual and yet is not reducible to non-being simpliciter (pure nothingness). Potentiality or virtuality, for instance, seem to occupy an intermediate space since these are neither actual nor pure nothing. In the first part, I propose a critique of actualism, the ontological position that considers that only that which is actual is real by considering an ancient version (Diodorus Cronus) and a contemporary debate on modalities (modal realism and modal fictionalism). I then analyze non-actuality through the case of virtual reality, the ontology of power, Aristotelian dunamis, and Deleuzian virtuality and reject the common reduction of potentiality to a lack or privation. As an alternative, I propose to conceptualize the form of process ontology that would accommodate virtuality and potentiality in terms of play (Spielraum).

A generalized scalar–tensor (GST) theory is investigated whose cosmological (or quintessence) term depends on both a scalar field and its time derivative. A correspondence with solutions of five-dimensional Space–Time–Matter (STM) theory is noted. Analytic solutions are found for the scale factor, scalar field and cosmological term. Models with free parameters of order unity are consistent with recent observational data and could be relevant to both the dark matter and cosmological "constant" problems.

India is a developing economy. It is the land of opportunities. It is a country with “unity in diversity.” Due to increasing population and changing needs in the modern lifestyle, it is essential to understand the growing importance of financial literacy, saving patterns, investment options for stability and management of emergencies. India has a large chunk of middle-class group out of total population. Hence, micro-finance plays an important role in this regard. The present study aims to analyze the role of micro-finance and its benefits for families. The study is empirical in nature. The researcher has administered the structured questionnaire and collected primary data of 47 respondents. The data were analyzed and interpreted through descriptive statistics and Pearson Correlation Coefficient test. The study is significant as it deals with the financial inclusion, micro-finance, family finance in Pune City.

Quaternary ammonium methacryloxy silicate (QAMS)-containing acrylic resin demonstrated contact-killing antimicrobial ability in vitro after three months of water storage. The objective of the present double-blind randomised clinical trial was to determine the in vivo antimicrobial efficacy of QAMS-containing orthodontic acrylic by using custom-made removable retainers that were worn intraorally by 32 human subjects to create 48-hour multi-species plaque biofilms, using a split-mouth study design. Two control QAMS-free acrylic disks were inserted into the wells on one side of an orthodontic retainer, and two experimental QAMS-containing acrylic disks were inserted into the wells on the other side of the same retainer. After 48 hours, the disks were retrieved and examined for microbial vitality using confocal laser scanning microscopy. No harm to the oral mucosa or systemic health occurred. In the absence of carry-across effect and allocation bias (disks inserted in the left or right ...

Socio-demographic characteristics are proven vital in terms of different elements associated with choosing a tourist destination. The tourism industry in the time of Covid-19 has experienced numerous challenges. This research aims to examine the listed elements in the context of the socio-demographic characteristics of respondents. The research results will answer the question if respondents who planned to spend summer holidays abroad in 2020, and that destination was replaced with a domestic destination, statistically significantly differ by some socio-demographic characteristics in comparison to those that planned to travel abroad and succeeded. The results show no differences in social-demographic characteristics and show that respondents who replaced tourist destinations abroad with a domestic ones are more eager to do that again in the future. Following obtained results of the research, the authors point to key conclusions and recommendations.
