With this essay I would like to offer an overview about the Giacomo Treves identity as a collector, and a comprehensive impression of the consistency of his art collection immersed in the historical and cultural context, this to better un- derstand the meaning of his patron activity. This is also the occasion to outline the landscape of the collectors during the period in which Treves has been a protagonist of the Italian patronage in XIX century.

Troiano Acquaviva d’Aragona (1695-1747) was a very influential figure in Rome in the first half of the 18th century, at the center of a dense network of economic, political and cultural relations, and was a protagonist of European collecting. His role in the Accademia dell’Arcadia is reflected in his collecting practice. This essay presents a portion of the Inventory of his possessions, subdivided by type (ceramics, paintings, silver, sacred vestments and jewelry), along with other comparative documents.
