Until now, the relatively quiet transition from traditional Graeco-Roman religion to Christianity has gone unexplained. In dialogue with James Rives and Jörg Rüpke, I argue that Christianity made better use than its religious competition of long-term trends in the Roman Empire, such as expanding literacy, the rejection of sacrifice, the movement toward monotheism, and the closing of the distance between gods and their faithful. The growing skepticism within the city elites regarding the credibility of its traditional religion, the decrease in investments in its material side, and the strength of the Christian organizations were additional factors together with contingent events, such as Constantine’s victory and his long rule.

We find that the deterministic application of choice-chance mechanics, as applied in the Tempt Destiny experiment, is also reflected in the construct of the double-slit experiment and that the complementary results obtained by this treatment mirror that of Niels Bohr's principle of complementarity as well as reveal Einstein's hidden variables. Whereas the double-slit experiment serves to reveal the deterministic and indeterministic behavioral characteristics of our physical world, the Tempt Destiny experiment serves to reveal the deterministic and indeterministic behavioral characteristics of our actions. The unifying factor shared by both experiments is that they are of the same construct yielding similar results from the same energy. Given that, we seek to establish if the fundamental states of energy, i.e, certainty and probability, are indeed predetermined. Over the span of ten years, the Tempt Destiny experimental model of pairing choice and chance events has statistically obtained consistent results of absolute value. The evidence clearly infers that the fundamental mechanics of energy is a complement of two mutually exclusive mechanisms that bring into being -- as opposed to revealing -- the predetermined state of an event as either certain or probable, although not both simultaneously.

The present essay addresses the different ways of walking in a cultural landscape as a tool to interpret its heritage. From the nineteenth-century travelers to the contemporary regional archaeological surveys, walking plays a crucial role in shaping our understanding of place. Past ways of walking archived in primary sources, contemporary interpretations of montane cultural landscapes, and the ways of walking in the present reveal different attitudes to heritage. This article investigates the region of Zagori in northwestern Greece as a case study to approach different walks, past and present, related both to remembering and forgetting, through the perspectives of dwelling, inhabiting, and gazing at the cultural landscape of Zagori.

The main motive for this field trip is for the “Friends of R2P – Cambodia” to be exposed to and to build awareness of the past atrocities that thrust upon Cambodia during the genocidal regime of the Khmer Rouge. We often learn the history of the Khmer Rouge through the victims’ perspective but a study tour to the Anlong Veng Peace Center - the last stronghold of the Khmer Rouge - would ideally enable the participants to get a first hand opportunity to interact directly with former Khmer Rouge cadres of their personal experience during the regime and its aftermath. Participants will visit selective historical sites, learn about the process of reconciliation of the brutal past and better understand the reintegration back into society. It is through dialogue and education that together we can come to terms with the dark past and reconcile with each other. It also aims to elevate capacity-building mechanism among members of the network about memory, justice, reconciliation, and peace as well as to seek to promote the R2P norm to a wider audience at different levels of the society.
