Kornélia Kolářová Takácsová (ed.): Ženy ve středověku - Zakladatelky mecenasky matky
Zapomenutá relikvie a Panna Maria Královna nebes ve středověké Pešti – postřehy k nově objevené nástěnné malbě ve farním kostele Vnitřního města v PeštiIn the summer of 2010, a previously unknown medieval wall-painting was discovered in the ambulatory of the Inner City Parish of Pest (now the 5th district of Budapest) (fig. 1). The discovery was quite a sensation: an almost intact fresco of the Virgin and child, discovered in the very center of the former Kingdom of Hungary. It was even more surprising, because extensive restoration works, and research was carried out in the sanctuary of the church in 1889-90 as well as in the 1930s and several times following World War II. In fact, a series of wall paintings have been discovered in 1942 in the niches built into the ambulatory walls. Following the uncovery and restoration of the fresco of the Madonna by Éva Derdák, a series of brief preliminary studies were dedicated to the new images. Major excavations and reconstruction then followed inside the church in 2014-2015 – however, many questions raised by the discovery of the wall painting have not yet been answered adequately. My paper gives an overview of these questions and will also include some answers to the problems surrounding one of the oldest churches of Budapest.
The agricultural school of Mikveh- Israel is oft-addressed in Zionist historiography, from the perspective of its renown principles, as an upbringer of prominent Zionist figures. This selective approach has left untapped the stories of students who did not stood out as natural national leaders or gifted farmers, failing this way to compliment the narrative of a linear development of the Jewish Yishuv into the Israeli state. In this article we wish to recover some of the experiences of a segment within this group of young boys- Mikveh Israel's Palestinian-Arab students. By narrating the story of these students during the Late Ottoman and British Mandate periods, we aim to redraw the history of Mikveh-Israel's integration within its lingual, cultural and political surroundings. This small-scale social history of the school's pupils, we argue, enables shedding light upon initial Palestinian perceptions of the Zionist project, as well as exposing ways in which Zionist advocates tired to pave ways into local Arab politics.

Following the Pathways of Greimas’ MythologyAlthough several decades have passed since studies in mythology by Algirdas Julius Greimas Apie dievus ir žmones (‘Of Gods and Men’, 1979) and Tautos atminties beieškant (‘In Search of the National Memory’, 1990) saw publication, his pathway of mythological research has not been discussed in detail so far. The article contains chronological survey of Greimas’ works on mythology (including the ones published in French). The author highlights prerequisites and goals of Greimas’ studies on mythology and his attitude towards the situation of mythological research in Lithuania.Greimas’ earliest encounter with mythology and folklore is related with Lithuanian folklorist Jonas Balys. In the 1940s–1960s Greimas used to correspond with Balys, receiving folklore publications from him, and after having started publishing his works on Lithuanian mythology, engaging in discussions regarding his research methods. In 1949, Greimas published in theperiodical of Lithuanian diaspora Viltis his review ...
