With a fossil fuel based power sector, mainly natural gas based, Bangladesh is suffering an acute shortage in both of electricity and natural gas. The most priority is given to the alternative sources of electricity to meet the increasing demand. Renewable energy sources are clean, environment-friendly and sustainable. The geographical position of Bangladesh is the best suitable for solar energy. Also the south-east part of the country is rich in wind energy. This paper represents a cost-benefit feasibility study of an on-grid PV-wind hybrid power system in Patenga, Chittagong, a region in the south-east part of Bangladesh. We use the electricity demand of hundred households for this study. HOMER optimization software is used to simulate the proposed hybrid system. The simulation shows that it will be feasible to use our proposed system as an alternative to diesel and high sulphur fuel oil (HSFO) based quick rental power plants presently used in Bangladesh.

The size optimization and economic evaluation of the solar-wind hybrid renewable energy system (RES) to meet the electricity demand of 276 kWh/day with 40 kW peak load have been determined in this study. The load data has been collected from the motels situated in the coastal areas of Patenga, Chittagong. RES in standalone as well as grid connected mode have been considered. The optimal system configurations have been determined based on systems net present cost (NPC) and cost of per unit energy (COE). A standalone solar-wind-battery hybrid system is feasible and economically comparable to the present cost of diesel based power plant if 8% annual capacity shortage is allowed. Grid tied solar-wind hybrid system, where more than 70% electricity contribution is from RES, is economically comparable to present grid electricity price. Moreover, grid tied RES results in more than 60% reduction in greenhouse gases emission compared to the conventional grid. Sensitivity analysis has been per...
Currently some rural areas of Bangladesh are powered by diesel generators with fuel. To reduce dependence on fossil fuel and improve power system, the government is planning to enhance locally available renewable energy for power generation. Optimization of renewable hybrid energy system looks into the process of selecting and combining the best types of components and their sizing with appropriate operation strategy. This work is designed to presents an optimized technique of a multi-source hybrid energy system which includes renewable energy resources such as biomass, solar radiation as a primary resources and a battery tank which has been used to cover the emergency load demand and a diesel generator for backup. The HOMER software was employed to do the simulations for optimization of hybrid energy system to find out the finest, cost effective and environmentally viable energy system. A detailed feasibility study and techno-economic evaluation of a renewable solar–biomass hybrid system analysis, description and expected performance of the proposed system were presented. The developed biomass / solar / diesel hybrid energy system can supply electricity to the region under consideration at hourly average of a typical day of approximately 11KW. The optimal operation shows that the Cost of Energy (COE) of the system is $ 0.077/KWh where the quick rental power plant in Bangladesh can provide electric power at a rate of $ 0.097/KWh. Finally, a performance analysis on its load consumption and renewable energy resource was performed to evaluate the economic analysis and identify which variable has the greatest impact on the PV system.

This paper demonstrate an optimal hybrid renewable energy system based on Homer for a small market near Patenga beach. The main motto of this paper is to design a hybrid renewable standalone system and optimize the cost of produced power from renewable energy sources using Homer control technique for the particular area. The system is a coalescence of PV array, AC wind generator, Biogas Generator, battery and converter. Currently available non-renewable system creates environmental hazard and depends on fossil fuel which is the main reason behind excessive carbon emission. Bangladesh is largely dependent on fossil fuel energy and has to expense a large amount of money in addition to causing the environmental imbalance. We cannot continue the development of country depending on current trend of energy production. For the betterment of country we have to proceed through the production of clean energy. The proposed system will help to mitigate the clean energy scarcity and justify the cost effectiveness than other prevailing system.

As technology is advancing, the consumption of power is steadily rising. Sufficient and reliable source of electricity is a major prerequisite for a sustained and successful economic development and poverty reduction. In Bangladesh, the crisis of power is a major problem. Gradually the fissure between demand and production is escalating. Moreover, most of the power plants are gas based which will be phased out in near future. Misuse, system loss and corruption in power sector are the main issue regarding this crisis. Therefore, electricity shortage is an acute crisis in Bangladesh. Most of the rural area is not connected with the national grid. So, agricultural and industrial production is greatly hampering in rural areas. Electrification in rural and isolated area is the crying need of Bangladesh. It is very essential to provide electricity for them. The challenge of energy accessibility needs to be understood in terms of availability as well as affordability for individuals and communities. Bangladesh has good prospects of renewable power generation. Proper utilization of renewable energy is the up most choice for solving the power crisis in Bangladesh because it requires low cost and less risk. There are at most thirty small and isolated islands in Bangladesh. Char Nizam (Latitude: N 22.68, Longitude: E 90.65) is one of the island with 1800 inhabitants in Bhola district of Barisal division in Bangladesh. In this research he have tried to design a feasible system for that area and considered a hybrid system that contains diesel-PV-biogas system. Hybrid Optimization Model for Electric Renewable (HOMER) software is used to find out the final optimization and sensitive analysis of hybrid system. This system satisfies the load demand and reduces CO2 emission which will help to generate green energy.
One of the major obstacles for economic development of Bangladesh is power crisis. A reliable, affordable and secure supply of energy is important for economic development. Shortage of electric power generation causes a significant amount of load shading every day. Scarcity of fossil fuel reservation is a worldwide problem. Moreover, fossil fuel based energy system has adverse effect on environment. Again, only one renewable energy based energy system is not economical. A renewable hybrid energy system may be used to reduce dependency on either conventional fossil fuel energy or only renewable energy system as well as has an excellent solution for electrification of remote areas where the grid extension is difficult and not economical. Abundance of renewable energy sources in the form of solar energy, wind energy provides opportunities of renewable energy based hybrid energy system in the coastal areas of Bangladesh. Wind energy or solar energy based energy systems are extensively studied and in operation in several remote areas of Bangladesh. But hybrid renewable energy studied has got little attention in Bangladesh. This research work is an in-depth scenario and analysis of the renewable hybrid energy in Feni, a remote coastal district of Bangladesh. Comparative study is also done with diesel based, solar energy based and wind energy based energy system. Optimization of hybrid renewable energy systems looks into the process of selecting the best components and its sizing with appropriate operation strategy to provide cheap, efficient, reliable and cost effective alternative energy. This paper analyzes all the conditions and constraints of the renewable energy integrated hybrid system and proposes an optimal combination of energy components for coastal area with minimizing the life cycle cost. In this analysis, it is found that for a 19MW power plant in Feni the cost of energy for solar based, wind based, diesel based and hybrid solar-wind-diesel based power plant are 0.39$/KWh, 0.258$/KWh, 0.218$/KWh and 0.157$/KWh, respectively. Energy generation by hybrid system reduces the generation cost and helps in balancing the cost of energy. Again a standalone renewable energy incorporated hybrid energy system will reduce load demand from the grid and will be an eco-friendly energy system.

The aims of this paper are to develop hybrid energy systems considering biomass energy sources as well as a framework and optimal configuration of hybrid systems of energy for a southern sub-urban area of Bhola district in Bangladesh, named Kukri Mukri island, and analyse the feasibility of the techno-economic prospects of these systems. In this work, electrification for the rural area is analysed for different configurations of the hybrid systems. The estimation of available resources with optimal sizing and analysis of techno-economic aspects is done through HOMER Pro software to satisfy the demand of peak load. Different configurations of hybrid energy systems, including PV/diesel, PV/wind, PV/diesel/wind, PV/wind/diesel/biomass, and wind/diesel, are analysed and compared through optimization of different energy sources in HOMER. The size of the system and components are optimized and designed depending on the net present cost (NPC) and the levelized cost of energy (LCOE). Due to...
