The mammoth significance of the Mahābhārata to Indic Chronology is readily seen in the copious scholarship dedicated not only to examining its epoch but also in particular to dating of river Sarasvatī. While there are several works studying Sarasvatī in the earliest Sanskrit texts and drawing inferences and arguments from textual evidence to address critical issues plaguing early Indic chronology, a similar effort—to comprehensively document, from 89000+ verses of the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute (BORI) critical edition of the Mahābhārata and analyse it in its context to draw inferences that could be of relevance to early Indic chronology—forms the crux of this paper. The authors’ work consists of a database of 222 verses of Sarasvatī from the BORI critical edition of the Mahābhārata. This database enables study of the qualifiers associated with the river, including vitality, an especially crucial factor when considered with the geographical markers associated with it, thus providing a framework against which contemporary scientific research draws greater perspective. We particularly look at the verses that indicate vitality of the river in the light of scientific evidence from fields including geology, geomorphology, geohydrology to explore the possibility of a terminus ante quem for the textual material. The authors believe that their database, when combined with the parameter of geographical coordinates, fills an important place in textual analysis of the epic with regards to the timeline of the Sarasvatī itself, and by extension the chronology of the events of the Mahābhārata.
Challenges of the Technological Mind: Between Philosophy and Technology
Theoretical virtues of cognitive extension2024 •
This paper argues that the extended mind approach to cognition can be distinguished from its alternatives, such as embedded cognition and distributed cognition, not only in terms of metaphysics, but also in terms of epistemology. In other words, it cannot be understood in terms of a mere verbal redefinition of cognitive processing. This is because the extended mind approach differs in its theoretical virtues compared to competing approaches to cognition. The extended mind approach is thus evaluated in terms of its theoretical virtues, both essential to empirical adequacy and those that are ideal desiderata for scientific theories. While the extended mind approach may have similar internal consistency and empirical adequacy compared to other approaches, it may be more problematic in terms of its generality and simplicity as well as unificatory properties due to the cognitive bloat and the motley crew objections.

Touristic exotification: discourse analysis of tour descriptions to Tuva2024 •
The study has shown that Tuva is highly exotified and mystified in the tourism industry. This region appears to be an ancient land with mysterious, magical features that are interwoven with shamanism and Buddhism, which also sometimes refer to the pristine nature of this land. Something that was revealed unexpectedly is that Tuva in these descriptions is put as an uncivilized place on the outskirts of Russia. The attractiveness of this region is constructed through its differentiation from the “rest of Russia." There are many dichotomies, such as "us-them"— "Russians-Tuvans"—"Atheist-Shabanism"—"Modern-Ancient"—"Civilized-UnciviTuvans” – “Atheist – Shamanist” – “Modern – Ancient” – “Civilized – Uncivilized”. There are several frequently occurring topics that unite all these firms in terms of descriptions of Tuva: nomadic lifestyle (ancient), spirituality (shamanism/Buddhism), nature (pristine, wild), traditions (ancient, long-kept), and civilization (isolated, borderline). Tuvans have expressed their amusement at the words that these companies use and have not been glad about the notion of a non-civilized place. There are many more things that tourists might see except those “ancient” traditions, such as Soviet memorials, brutalist architecture, modern ethno-singers, beaches, and extreme sports. Interviewees have expressed their hope for a more conscious approach when creating tours to Tuva.
