While the use of artificial intelligence (AI) systems promises to bring significant economic and social benefits, it is also coupled with ethical, legal, and technical challenges. Business leaders thus face the question of how to best reap the benefits of automation whilst managing the associated risks. As a first step, many companies have committed themselves to various sets of ethics principles aimed at guiding the design and use of AI systems. So far so good. But how can well-intentioned ethical principles be translated into effective practice? And what challenges await companies that attempt to operationalize AI governance? In this article, we address these questions by drawing on our first-hand experience of shaping and driving the roll-out of AI governance within AstraZeneca, a biopharmaceutical company. The examples we discuss highlight challenges that any organization attempting to operationalize AI governance will have to face. These include questions concerning how to define the material scope of AI governance, how to harmonize standards across decentralized organizations, and how to measure the impact of specific AI governance initiatives. By showcasing how AstraZeneca managed these operational questions, we hope to provide project managers, CIOs, AI practitioners, and data privacy officers responsible for designing and implementing AI governance frameworks within other organizations with generalizable best practices. In essence, companies seeking to operationalize AI governance are encouraged to build on existing policies and governance structures, use pragmatic and action-oriented terminology, focus on risk management in development and procurement, and empower employees through continuous education and change management.

This project began with a fascination over various Christmas traditions in the British Isles and ballooned from there into a full outline, or floor plan if you will, of the Church in the Isles from the scarce facts available regarding the Roman times until the Reformation. It covers four basic areas: the early Irish Church, Structure and Hierarchy, Worship, and the Kalendar, and is fairly dense with facts and little "discussion". (revised with new info on the Diocese of Lindisfarne and several Anglo-Saxon saints added to the Kalendar 3 December 2023) (literally the day after uploading the above revision, I ran across the Martyrology of the Use of Exeter and added a few entries.)

If we affirm that salvation occurs apart from the acceptance of Christian revelation, then either faith is not necessary for salvation, or saving faith occurs apart from the historical transmission of the Gospel. Either conclusion is difficult to reconcile with traditional Catholic doctrines. Let us suppose that it is more congruous to say that faith occurs outside the historical communion of Christ than to say that salvation occurs without faith. There arises a twofold question about the faith that occurs outside a Christian context, namely, how it is related to Jesus Christ, and how it is related to the meanings and values of the context in which it does occur. This article develops some theological categories for approaching this problem, in conversation with Aquinas, Lonergan, and the Catholic doctrinal tradition.

A atividade historiográfica na Psicologia é bastante desenvolvida em nosso país e conhecida do meio acadêmico. Mas o mesmo não acontece com a investigação em Filosofia da Psicologia, um dos campos em maior expansão no mundo e que concentra grande parte da produção acadêmica filosófica e psicológica. Os objetivos deste artigo são três. O primeiro é oferecer uma descrição sistemática da investigação em Filosofia da Psicologia. O segundo é demonstrar que algumas das atividades ordinárias desta disciplina são condições de possibilidade da investigação científica experimental. O terceiro é elencar alguns problemas psicológicos importantes que parecem inabordáveis pelo método científico. Nas três últimas décadas temos assistido a uma retomada das discussões filosóficas sobre os fundamentos da psicologia e o significado de seus resultados empíricos. Ao mesmo tempo, a Filosofia da Mente emergiu como a principal área de interesse filosófico contemporâneo. Se definirmos a Filosofia da Psicologia como "o estudo de questões conceituais em Psicologia" que abarca desde o estudo dos fundamentos da disciplina até a Filosofia da Mente, podemos apontar quatro áreas, relativamente distintas, de intersecção entre a Psicologia e a Filosofia. Elas são a Epistemologia da Psicologia, a Psicologia Teórica, a Psicologia Filosófica e a Filosofia da Mente.
