Abstract We describe the main architecture and the design principles of the service/resource discovery system (SRDS), a component of the XtreemOS operating system. XtreemOS is a Linux extension that enables management and exploitation as single platform of computational resources provided by federated virtual organizations.

Ο Ρέι Κουρτσβάιλ (Ray Kurzweil), ένας από τους πιο γνωστούς φουτουριστές και ειδικούς στην τεχνητή νοημοσύνη (ΤΝ), έχει προβλέψει σημαντικές εξελίξεις στην τεχνητή νοημοσύνη και την τεχνολογική ανάπτυξη. Η έννοια της «τεχνολογικής μοναδικότητας» (singularity) αναφέρεται στο σημείο όπου η τεχνολογική ανάπτυξη θα φτάσει σε τόσο γρήγορους ρυθμούς που θα είναι αδύνατο για τον ανθρώπινο νου να την κατανοήσει πλήρως ή να την ελέγξει.
