PFAPA syndrome (periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis, adenopathy) is characterized by abrupt onset of fever, malaise, aphthous stomatitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis and cervical adenopathy. The age of onset of the disease is four years, with a range of 6 months to 7 years. The syndrome is sporadic and nonhereditary. Long-term sequelae do not develop. A nine- year-old boy presented with sore throat, fever and oral aphthae. After taking a throat culture, he was prescribed oral antipyretic and was called for a follow-up visit the next day. As the culture result was negative, he was given a single dose prednisolone with the suspected diagnosis of PFAPA. Twenty-four hours later his temperature was 36.8 degrees C, with all his complaints regressed. Twenty-two days later the patient was again admitted to our hospital with the same complaints. Again, single dose oral prednisolone was given after a throat culture. On the next day the patient was free of all symptoms and the cultur...

There have been remarkable developments in the field of autoinflammatory diseases over the last 20 years. Research has led to definitions of new conditions, increased understanding of disease mechanisms and specific treatment. The polygenic autoinflammatory condition of periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis and cervical adenitis (PFAPA) is the most common autoinflammatory disorder among children in many parts of the world. The clinical features often include clockwork regularity of episodes, prompt responses to corticosteroids and therapeutic effects of tonsillectomy, but the disease mechanisms are largely unknown. This review discusses the emerging understanding of autoinflammatory diseases, with special emphasis on PFAPA. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

This paper analyzes the phenomen of snobbery as a all present form of value system in modern society. We can say that today’s world rests on a form of behavior which is, frankly speaking, dehumanized, narcissistic, and in desire of greater self-promotion, extremely materialized. Globalization and the accelerated flow of services, goods and people, have also contributed to this, creating a hybrid global culture and its associated values. Such circumstances are the basis for the creation of a worldview and way of life that is especially evident in the 21st century, the century of technology, when it is very easy to present a distorted and self-constructed version of oneself. The paper problematizes and actualizes, from a sociological and psychological point of view, the characteristics of the snob and his social position.
