While I was initially very wary of the Alien Huntress Series, I'm glad I gave it a chance. It was a refreshing change to the supernatural genre and it wasn't too sci fi to put me off. Mia Snow is a feisty character who meets her match in Kyrin, an otherworlder. A good introduction to this new world. Books 1 and 2 differ in style from the rest of the series, but they are all enjoyable nonetheless and should be read in order to fully appreciate.

Gena Showalter is a brilliant writer. All her books are riveting. And Awaken Me Darkly is as compelling as anything she's written. All I can say is bring me more. Thank you Gena for keeping me entertained page after page. The only problem is that I get so caught up in the story, with wanting to know what happened next, I tend to read the books too quickly. But I can read Gena's books over and over and never get bored.

Like one of the other reviewers here, I didn't rate this on my first reading - so much so that it went straight onto the charity shop pile. But, ever the cautious one, I decided to have a quick flick through it, before actually taking it to the shop - started half way through, found myself reading to the end, then started at the beginning and read to the middle. An odd way to read a book I admit, but it's gone back onto the shelves.

What I didn't, and still don't like is the amount of hitting she does - yeah yeah, she's a martial arts whizz, but what she actually does is sock people (principally the alien she thinks is a baddie, but wants to bed). I just didn't believe that in a bout of fisticuffs a little stringy female will win. I certainly got the impression he let her "win", and could have flattened her whenever he wanted. And at the risk of outraging any feminists, there's no way a sub-5'5" female could out punch a trained, muscled 6'-plus man. Why she doesn't break bones in her hand I don't know...

I also disliked the tying to a bed and dressing in see-through dresses bit - I'm all for consensual play, but this wasn't.

So why have I kept it? I liked her co-workers - and had hoped she might revisit them. The synopsis of the next one in this "series" suggest not, still, I'll keep an eye open and maybe give her a try again.

For a kick-ass girl with attitude - try Lilith Saintcrow's Dante Valentine in Dead Man Rising and Working for the Devil - I stumbled across them by accident and love 'em.

Another amazing book from Gena. I loved how it started with the heroine telling a little about herself and then it just went straight into the story and kept me on the eve of my seat the whole way through. I can't wait to read the rest in the series

Brilliant book and defiantly worth the read. The story line is brilliant and I like how modern and out worldly it is x

A definite read, to transform you into another world and escape the snow and cold outside. Totally different from her other series, can't wait to read the next book out.

The story starts with an intriguing mystery. The characters start to build and then it becomes a mechanical and implausible explanation.

Gena Showalter è una scrittrice eccezionale, come se ne leggono pochissimi ai giorni d'oggi. sarcastica, ironica, ti tiene con il fiato sospeso fino all'ultimo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mia Snow for the WIN!!!

Can this woman write or what?! Gena Showalter is most definitely, and without a doubt, THE ISH!!

This book was AMAZING!! I absolutely did not want it to end. Mia Snow has had a rough childhood, but turned out to be such a kick-ass heroine! She's smart, pretty, strong willed and doesn't take crap from anyone. Then there's Kyrin... the tall, handsome, also smart alien. These two are like oil and vinegar: fine on their own, but sooo much better together.

This book had so many twists I didn't know what to do with myself. It's nuts (in the most awesome way possible) when you think something is going to go one way, then all of a sudden BAM! You're hit with some other thing... smh... I had to reread a few parts just to make sure I wasn't seeing things. (Love it when that happens...)

Anywho, I'm eager to see what else is in store in the rest of the series. Hopefully there's more of Mia and the halflings.

The character is just trying too hard to be too tough and too clever. The story is told in first person and that seems to be one of the pitfalls of this style, and, oy, did this book totally fall into that trap. It's like reading the diary of an overdramatic ego maniac. It's downright hard to get past the first few pages. In fact, I didn't; put the book right down and went on to read something else.

If you do survive the beginning and can stomach much the same throughout, the characters and story aren't worth the effort. For in depth reviews of that, please check other negative reviews. They're more in the right than the positive, which encouraged me to give this one a try.

Alien hunting? Detective drama? A touch of romance? Sure, why not?

Unfortunately bad enough that I would be hesitant to try another book from this author. I know there are more books in this series and I would definitely not want to see this character and presentation again.

I thought I already this series but I somehow missed it.

I liked the story and am really loving the characters. It took a moment to like Mia because I thought she was prejudice and too combative but then I started to like her.

I'm going to gobble this series up.

Gena showalter has never disappointed me. This novel is about Mia Snow, an alien huntress, she hunts down all the species of aliens that attack humans. Several brown haired, brown eyed men are stolen with no evidence left behind. When one shows up poisoned by an alien chemical Mia and her partner Dallas go on the hunt. Dallas is attacked and left in a coma state. Their main suspects brother has the ability to heal Dallas, all Mia has to do is set her suspect free and go against all she fights for. Kyrin has magical blood that can heal Dallas, thus Mia is in a dilemma. Mia sets out to find the truth and avoid her unexplainable attraction to Kyrin. This book was very fast paced and easy to follow. The characters were well rounded and very likable. Mia has a temper I thought was amusing, her temporary partner Jaxon is funny as well. I would definately read on through the series.
